Recurring issues with my JL amp/s

I posted a while back about the low OHM light suddenly appearing on my 300/4. Well I replaced the amp with another and the same issue popped up again so I suspect it's not an issue with the amp/s. I was talking to a friend who runs a car audio shop and he said the cause could be the stock speaker wires and that they might not be able to handle the power of the amp. It doesn't explain however why the set up worked great for 3 months before the issue popped up originally. Does anyone think he's on to something? I've checked all speaker wires and nothing seems amiss, I'm just hoping this doesn't have anything to do with the HU.

Truly depends on how it was wired (bridged or not / resistance) and what speakers you are using. I would use a multimeter and check the OHM on each speaker wire and make sure it is alteast 4 ohms. I think the 300/4 likes to stay at 4 ohms all day long. Only the 1000/1 or 500/1 will go down to 2ohms or even 1 ohm.

according to the specs its should work on with 2 ohm speakers. i doubt its the deck since its being bypassed and not powering the speakers. id check into the speakers. could be a faulty one or even a loose wire touching each other at the cones

I've had the 300/4 bridged to two channels over stock wiring for... 3 years now, so it's not the type of stock wiring that's a problem, but there's always a chance that there's a wiring problem that's developed - a wire rubbing or loose connection - or the speakers themselves.

Well I pulled the door panels and everything's buttoned up in there. I'll pull the rest of the path apart this weekend to see if there's a loose connection and am pondering just replacing the wire while I have the car apart. The other weird thing is if I pull the wires from the amp and then put power to it, the low ohm light still lights up. Hope I haven't fried my second amp but don't see how that could happen.

I still need to get a multimeter to test the ohms at different parts of the wire path.

My JL500/1 went bad after about a month of use, maybe you got a couple bad ones?

Rewiring is not bad, the worst part by far is running through the molex connectors on the door.

the slash series amps are designed to work at the max wattage anywhere from 1.5-4 ohms at 12.5-14.4v... although with a multimeter hooked up, they actually exceed the max wattage with higher volts and lower ohms.... best amps on the market, minus the HD series....is it hooked to the oem HU or an aftermarket? if its aftermarket, id just do a complete rewire job... easiest check

did you buy it from an authorized dealer? ill never make the mistake not to again.. bought a w6v2 online and the coil went bad from battery disconnects.. it didnt have a serial number on it so i dont know if they are stolen, fake, or reconditioned stuff that non-authorized places sell

The amp's hooked up to a JVC DD. I'm going to re-wire the speakers from the front to the back when I have a chance. We'll see if that's the issue.

Can't remember if it was an authorized dealer, but the dealer covered it under their own warranty equal to JL's, so it was replaced without issue.
