I just purchased my G35!

Hello everyone!

I just purchased my first G35 a few weeks ago from a used dealer.

Anyways, I just found out there is a common problem with the 03 models? the center console became dead on me. The car did however come with an aftermarket cd/dvd player that they placed at the top where the navi would supposedly be.

I've searched around the G35 forums and found that the problem is with the computing unit behind the stock radio.

I believe the car I have now, has already been modified to utilize an aftermarket radio to "fix" this problem. And all of the tutorials i've read are to add another stereo system near the bottom (where the cassette player is) to fix this problem.

Long story short, the AC is stuck on, is there another way to fix the center console being dead (even though the car already has an aftermarket cd/dvd player hooked up?)

I really appreciate any replies... as I'm heartbroken right now.

I've also read about some "metra kits", but all I see in these kids are the housing and a/c buttons. What do I put in that huge open space where the radio/cassette player resides?

Further information.. I'm a Canadian, so if you have kits or links for ordering, please leave some canadian sites or canadian friendly to order sites..

please let me know. thanks....

Can you take a picture of what you have? Sounds like they didn't really replace the radio and just added another stereo to get around it?

Go here for great info ^^^^

You'll need to get a dash kit and move the DVD down to where the old one is. Then you'll need to get a storage bin to go up top where the DVD is now. You might have to ask a dealer for help there but it's just a plastic bin piece, hopefully they don't kill you on price too much.

I have the JDM double din kit and I think it's totally worth it over the Metra kits. I know almost double the price can be kinda hard to justify, but you're gonna be looking at it every time you get in your car and I would not be able to tolerate those ugly, ugly buttons in such an otherwise nice interior.

You issue lies in the stock radio/ac set up. The air conditioning control board is integrated into the radio assembly and the only fix is to replace the faceplate with the Metra kit or the JDM DD option. Both have new ac controls, but then you'd have a big open space where the radio is supposed to be.

thanks, I appreciate your replies a lot. I've been to that thread you provided above, is there anything on placing something in that big open space you mentioned? can anyone give me some leads as to what fits in there?

Thank you so much for the replies.

I'm going to test take the stuff apart and see if I can fix the issue first, I'll post pictures in case I do become successfull.

I bet you the main reason the Bose stereo was swapped out was the problem of the Bose draining the battery! Many 03 and 04 owners did it, including me. Obvioulsy the previous owner did not use the correct part (AC/heating control unit) when he replaced it. I swapped mine a couple of years ago and have no issues with AC/heating controls. I think the contro unit for AC/heating was Metra. I bought it online it cost less than $150. You can order the matching color for your dash
