Are you using the factory head unit or something like a Pioneer or Alpine? Also do you have an amp in mind? My setup is a nice set of component speakers up front by Hybrid audio, with an Infinity 2 ch amp ran to them. Along with an Ascendant Audio 12" powered by a Kicker mono block amp. My 6x9s are gone and it has plenty of bass. More then I actually even need or use.

Edit: oh and a Pioneer DD DVD head unit.

Well the previous owner ran a "whatever" setup and I still have the amps. I have a alpine 4 channel, 60watt rms x 4chan and a single channel crappy sub amp, idek remember the name haha. I was looking at a monoblock for the sub and came across a boss. Is it any good? Boss Audio PH1500M Phantom Series

Oh and I have a 2din Kenwood 7017, which i have for sale haha

Well what type of sub are you planning on running? And when it comes to Boss, I prefer quality over quantity. Boss amps IMO are cheap amps in quality an in price. Others might have a different opinion but that's what I think. How much are you looking to spend on the amp? And sub? I would keep the double din and buy the jdm AC module and jdm dd kit. Or if you are wanting to sell it are planning on sticking a single din in there or the factory? I'll take a picture of my setup when I go back out to my car to show you the DD Jdm setup I have.

I would avoid boss, you will probably overheat the voice cool till the point it chokes itself. If you are on the hunt for a great sub, look at JL Audio. That is the cream of the crop of subs.

Well the Kappa runs 350 watt rms and so does the Boss, of course I will probably never run that wattage as I really don't want such a banging Bass. What i'm looking for is a balanced sound, for example everything is so balanced in my dads 2012 CTS equipped with Bose and also my boy's 335i which has logic 7. Those systems just sound so great and it is what i'm truly looking for

If you are looking for sound quality I would just stick with the Kappa series all around. Maybe a Kappa Perfect 10" sub and a mono block amp. When it comes to the boss, you aren't only missin out on quality but also the sound quality it puts out. Most likely to run into higher distortion rates then the Infinity gear. The Infinity amp I have is an entry level amp and I'm not very happy with it but I know for a fact that the Kappa series will give much more headroom and lower distortion rates. Just my opinion.

I doubt the boss can really put out 300, so it's going to be straining at 100% of what it can put out all the time, so the amp is going to be under a lot more strain which is bad for the sub too.

What do you recommend for an affordable mono amp?

Precision Power's ok, but I got a bad one last time I went with them... RMA'd it twice and now I've got a 600w amp from them sitting in a box, supposedly fixed but I'm not going to take the time to swap it out to check any time soon. Rockford Fosgate's very reliable power for the price (what I picked up while waiting for the second repair on the PP amp).

When it's powering a subwoofer, you're going to hear even less difference between amps than with the speakers. I've currently got an MTX powering my wife's 10" sub and it's working great. Not as much power as the JL 500/1, but it's only a 400w amp, so that's to be expected.

Precision Power puts out some solid amps at low price points. Decent power, solid reliability. Good looking.

They do. I just got a bad one. For the few days it was able to power the speakers without going into protect mode it was very good... but it just got more and more prone to protecting itself for no reason over a couple of months to the point it wouldn't even stay powered on. Put the RF amp in its place and it's never had any issues.

Boss in junk.. so is pyle and all that other crap you get on sites like onlinecarstereo.... the amp is the most important part of a system... a good amp can make a decent sub sound good... a crap amp will make a great sub sound like crap.... you want something with a low THD(total harmonic distortion) rating... and remember, its better to slightly overpower a sub then to severely underpower it. is it a newer kappa with the switch that lets you choose 2 or 4 ohms? if you run it at 2 ohms, you can get away with spending less money on an amp, cuz you get more power from 2 ohms than 4.... you also want something with a high signal/noise ratio... anything over 90 would be sufficient, but higher is better... you can get an entry level JL JX 360/2 amp that will run at 360watts@14.4v at 4ohms bridged for $200 with <1%THD.. but a mono D amp is the superior class amp but it will cost you more $$

remember, a really good amp will run about $1/watt or more.. if you see an amp that claims 1000watts and its only $250, its almost surely junk... like audiobahn... their stuff is rated incredibly high, like 3-4 times the real output, and the sound quality is junk compared to good stuff

Yup the distortion is crazy. Even for a sub amp.
