installing double din youself vs having a shop do it
My jdm kit came today so I finally got everything i need to install my kenwood unit. I called a reputable shop here and they could install everything for $150. I have looked at all the guides, and watched a ton of videos and the install seems fairly easy just time consuming. Really the only thing I'm iffy on is wiring the radio and backup camera. I'm not real sure on what goes where and i really don't want to short something out and screw it up. Can anyone chime in that has done this with no prior experience? How was it?
Thanks!
Thanks!
For 150, I would work that overtime because there is a lot of confined space work.
Remind you it is not really that hard to do. Wrathernaut makes this simple. Wiring chart is all you need... As for the backup camera it is a power wire, ground, and signal. Simple ****

There's been quite a few who have done the install as their first with the guides, but you're going to be doing a lot of routing wires to the rear for the camera install. If you're really uncomfortable, $150 isn't bad for the full install with the camera, and is less than replacing just about any part damaged during the install.
You might be able to find somebody in the regional forums (or if you can get to southern georgia, there's me) that can give you a hand.

Thanks for the relies guys.. I gave up on the Metra steering wheel control thing. Couldn't figure out where to run the brown and green wire into the car. Anyways now I'm having trouble getting the damn thing back into the center console. Everything is installed but it doesn't want to fit in.
The brown and green wires aren't used for anything with the metra axxess ASWC in our cars.
There's tons of room around the radio; the sides between the center hump and the trim, low and to the front of the car in the radio's void, and also under the cigarette lighter/ashtray area just in front of the shifter.
If it looks like it should fit, your issue is probably that the upper radio bracket that goes by the clock is trying to go under the bracket it attaches to. Guide it into position as you move the entire headunit with the other hand, or get somebody else to stick their hand in there to help you.
