Need help with replacing/upgrading BOSE head unit.
Need help with replacing/upgrading BOSE head unit.
Hello gents and gurus of Audio section.
I need a bit help with replacing my BOSE HU. It finally went complete retard and needs to be sent off to bose heaven.
So what I want to do is to replace it with aftermarket unit and leave all the other audio components in.
Since I'm a total newb in audio department I was wondering if yall can help me to make a right decision with a head unit.
I want something that will obviously have no issue working with rest of the bose system (amp)
Something that will support wide variety of media files, have navigation built in (or have nav appls in android base system).
My own research led me to Parrot Asteroid Smart
http://www.parrot.com/usa/products/a...asteroid-smart
Can I get your opinion on whether this unit is something worth getting or if there is something else you can suggest.
Thank you all in advance.

I'd avoid built-in navigation. Definitely inferior to smartphone navigation, and the premium it adds to the cost of a unit is significant.
The asteroid smart is getting more favorable reviews on amazon than the appradio3, it is actually capable as a standalone unit, and will work equally well with any smartphone or dedicated wireless hotspot that can provide it with a network connection. The appradio is seriously crippled without a smartphone.
If the asteroid smart drops below $400, I'll probably pick one up to replace my wife's aging Pioneer AVIC-X910BT. The appradio still feels a bit too limited right now.
Any radio will work equally well with the bose amplifier, provided you use the PAC ROEM-NIS2, as recommended in the shopping list.

Question on steering wheel controls. What will I need if I go with Parrot unit?
question on a steering wheel controls.
As you can see on the back of the parrot unit there is a plug for steering wheel controls.
Will ASWC-1 have to plug in there, or I simply have to wire up the plug that comes with Parrot unit (not sure if one does) to the ASWC-1 and wire that into the system?

so does that mean I have to use something different like UNIKA?

EDIT: METRA AXXESS DOES WORK! You just need the AX-SWC-PARROT cable, which as of this writing runs $15 from crutchfield.com or $6 from sonicelectronix (out of stock as of this writing).

sweet. thanks for the help guys.
I need to do a bit of searching on how to wire up the AXXESS, other than that I think I understand the process.
I wonder if update to 2.1.5 firmware for the Parrot has same requirements/warnings as 2.1.4 does as far as AXXESS goes?

Dunno, but again, if the price comes down a bit more, I'll be getting both and giving it a go.
I'll suffer without radio for now till you give it a try.
Might be a while, I'm a patient man.
Also, maybe something good may get announced at CES this year.
Really interesting news came out of Google I/O
Their androidauto system should hit the market pretty soon. Lot's of aftermerket partners are working on it with Googe. Hope to see some good aftermerket android units after this.
I'll hold off on the parrot unit for now.
