Can I Just Add A Subwoofer Instead Of Other Audio Equipment?

Hey guys, can I just add a 10 inch sub to my Bose audio system instead of having to get a deck, amp etc? If so how would I go about setting it up? Sorry if this has been answered before, I couldn't find anything on this, thanks guys!

This has been answered in the stickies at the top of the very forum you just posted in, something along the lines of,:

"How to install subwoofer with OEM Stereo"

Probably by Wrathernaut.

DIY add sub to your Bose system:

Shared post from 'G35Driver' by dR6 from thread 'DIY: Add a sub to your Bose equipped G35 Coupe':

I was looking at adding some more to my stock Bose system in my '06 Coupe. First I dynamatted the crap out of my car (search for my previous post for details). That set a good foundation but I wanted crisper highs and mids so I replaced the front speakers with Infinity Kappa components. There are better speakers out there, but for $125 and being a direct 2 ohm replacement, the sound couldn't be beat. I thought I would be satisfied with that, but the bass from the 6x9's left sooooo much to be desired (couldn't really hear it when my windows are rolled down)! That's when my project started. After a LOT of research on these forums, I decided with the below:

G35 Coupe w/ Bose
Jl 500/1 Amp
JL 10W6v2
4080 Sub box
JL 4 gauge amp kit
JL Bass Control ****

Previously installed:
Sound dampening: Damplifier, Spectrum Sludge, and Overkill sound absorber (all from Second Skin).
Infinity Kappa Components from ebay.

I bought my JL components from ebay because they were SOOOO much cheaper. I just bought the extended warranty from Square Trade for the amp ($30 for 3 years). Contact 4080 for an awesome box and a great price!

Coupe bro. I understand people have discussed something similar to this but I was wondering if I can just change the stock sub for a better one without having to get an amp and all of that. Sorry I don't know much about car audio.

Unless I'm missing something you are confusing the two 6x9's for subs on the rear deck. The coupe comes with no "stock sub."

Well you can have a little thump thump or bass you can feel at all volumes. Buy a used 10" (100-200) with box, 4080 box if you can spend the extra 100$, and amp for the sub (500-150).

Does the amp make your speakers sound any better? Or will the sound be the exact same with just more bass?Decent Component speakers are only 50 bucks a pair aren't they?

You have to buy the 4080 used.

Decent component speakers will knock the socks off the stock blows speakers.

The amp you are going to want to purchase would be a 5 channel amp, but it has to meet your power demands. The most cost effective option is two amps. A mono block and a 4 ch. Wrathernaut will chime in eventually on this though.

Don't put speakers in the rear, save the $.
What amp are you using for the front components?
