few quick navi questions

I got a few questions about the stock navigation in the G35's.

First, how much do you have to pay a month and how to I activate it? (I'm assuming call any dealer.) Mine has been turned off since I bought the G (2nd owner).

Second, are all the infiniti disks universal or do they differ per model/year? Like, for example, I have a friend trading in a 2001-2002 sedan (not G35) will the navi disks probably work in my G35?

Any info is great. Thanks.

There are no fees associated with gps. Its free (courtesty of US goverment). And you dont have to do anything to activate it.

1) There is no fee to activate or use the nav. If your car is equipped with the nav system, it should be up and running when you pop up the screen. Make sure the DVD is properly loaded in the cubby above the glove compartment. If it's not there, then you had better get in touch with whoever sold you the car, because it's a part of the car and should have come with it. Replacements are available, but not that cheap (see below).

One other possibility is that the display has been turned off. To turn it back on, hit DISPLAY, then select DISPLAY OFF and turn it back on.

2) I believe that prior to the G35, Infiniti navigation systems were CD based, and you had to change between nine or so CDs to cover the US. The G nav system is DVD based, and uses a single disk. The latest DVD version is 6.3, and is available at Zenrin for $185.

Sorry, you must have posted this while I was answering. If you don't have the disk then whoever sold you the car owes it to you, or owes you the $185 it'll cost to replace it. It's kind of a strange thing to keep when selling the car, too. As far as I know the disk won't work anywhere outside of an Infiniti/Nissan nav system, and I've never heard of anyone being able to copy it...

Damn, I checked at the dealer...they want like $599 for the navi disc. Wonder how that one from Zenrin is so much cheaper being $185? Anybody ordered one from them?

Zenrin is the official maker. They make the DVDs for Infiniti. Infiniti is just overpricing you, as usual, for the same item. Order it from Zenrin its the same disk.

Don't you have to call Infiniti customer service direct for the Navigation Disc? That's what my dealer said? Besides I think he said they upgrade like every 18 months or so

I mean, if they sell the disc at Zerin, dont think you need to involve the dealership. Its just a CD that you put in. Next time I go there, Ill ask about that (even though they dont seem so bright).

Not to be a smart ***, but do you believe everything your dealer tells you?

that is one sad, but true, sentence. They charge a HELL of a lot if you do your stuff from them.

Talking

I've gotten the upgrades from Zenrin. No need to involve the dealer at all. Just contact Zenrin online and register and pay via credit card and your new DVD will come in the mail...REALLY SIMPLE!!!!!!!!!!!
