Cigarette lighter assembly removal...

Hey everyone. Just installed a Grom Bluetooth adaptor in a 2004 g35 coupe 6mt. I bought a USB/3.5mm audio jack adaptor that is supposed to fit in place of the cigarette light. Does anyone know how to remove the cigarette lighter assembly. I can't figure it out. Any insight would be great. Thanks all in advance!

I was hoping someone more helpful would chime in here, I just remember getting it out of my sedan wasn't any special trouble, such that I don't remember what I did, but when I was going to run wires through it on a coupe, I couldn't get it without feeling like I was going to break something, so I gave up and just unscrewed the tub from the center armrest from below and ran wires through the gap between the tub and center armrest console. Ended up being a better option since there was no loss of the accessory outlet.

I've taken out the cigatette lighter assembly a coupe weeks back. I couldn't get it to work (turned out to be a blown fuse at the end ) so I removed the shifter trim to get to the back of it. If its the same there should be two small screws in the back of the cigarette lighter assembly you just unscrew which will loosen a metal clip inside the assembly that will then allow the whole assembly itself to be removed. I don't remember everything I did but I believe that should be all you need to do to remove it.

The one under the radio isn't a problem to remove, I thought you were trying to do the one in the center armrest console.

You mean something along the lines of this, only with USB instead of subwoofer level?

If so, once you remove the shifter base trim, it's just held in with a few screws. You just have to make sure your wiring doesn't interfere with the rotation of the ashtray.

well ideally i want it to take the place of the cigarette lighter, and leave the ashtray untouched. did you see any way to take that part out?

You can remove the cigarette lighter socket, then just plug that into the existing hole. I'm not sure if the cable sticking out the back will interfere with the ashtray rotation though.
