G35 Sedan Headunit or Amplifier problem?

Hi thanks for your help in advance. I have a 2003 G35 RWD Sedan (no SAT button) with the Factory Bose system.

I am trying to figure out if my problem is with the HU or amp.

Basically, sometimes the sound kicks in and out of certain speakers (not every speaker cuts out at the same time... usually just one side).

Also, the front right speaker has very, very low sound (like a whisper) even if I set my system to only the right front speaker.

I told all of this to a local car guy and he confirmed to me that it is the amplifier.

BUT, what I recently found is my CD isn't working properly. It is really staticky (and skips a lot... tried a couple CDs). Usually I always use the AUX through the tape deck so I didn't try this recently (the CD was working not too long ago which was the last time I tested it).

Can anyone please help me out here?

Thanks

Just about every part of these cars' audio systems is prone to failure. I'd recommend replacing both the factory headunit and amplifier. You're looking at about $400 for the whole thing if you get an inexpensive headunit and do the install yourself. If you need information on how to do the install, check this thread:

I see. So besides the CD issues did you also have the speaker issues I listed?

And yeah I may just do that then.

Yes/no. Mine were really intermittent. Some days it'd be bad. Next it was fine for a few days. No rhyme or reason to its pattern

Oh okay.

See my front speaker doesn't go out intermittently or anything like that. It's basically to the point where you can barely hear it and it stays like that.

As far as the rest of my speakers going out intermittently, it seems like that really only happens sometimes when I'm turning. Is that significant at all you think to whether it's the amp or head unit?

I don't want to have to buy a HU or amp and still have it messed up.

I should add that the sound cuts in and out sometimes when I turn but seems to come back on when I straighten the wheel.

The channels cutting in/out can be a bad ribbon cable, you can always give this DIY a shot:

Okay thanks.

Since the front right speaker is very quiet all the time (and onl that one), are you more leaning towards the problem being with the HU or with the amp with all the information of the problem that I've given?

To summarize the problems:

1) front right speaker always is at a very low volume. You can barely hear it.

2) my aux through my tape deck works fine for the most part, but the CD is really scratchy/staticky if I ever use that (wasn't like that in the past).

3) sometimes when I'm turning, only one side cuts out and comes back when I turn back striaght.

4) i did forgot to add that when I hit a bad pothole (I live in michigan), the audio system turns off for a second or two and comes back on itself. The navigation or A/C doesn't turn off. Just the audio system (and the display for it). This is rare, though, and only happens when I hit a deep pothole.

Update: So I just got out of class and decided to try another CD. I had tried like 3 or 4 before and they all were very staticky/scratching with a ton of skipping.

Well the cd I tried today was perfectly fine. Radio is working as well. The other problems, however, still exist. Could it still be the HU or is it indeed the amp?

Thanks

Edit: one last thing id like to add is that sometimes when I use the tape deck, even at high volume, there is MUCH less sound. You can easily tell. So I take out the aux tape deck a couple times and it goes back to full volume (at the same volume it sounds much louder) and the bass is sometimes crisper also.
