Compustar and MT install help !!???

Hey guys,

I went to my local shop (closest one that offers compustar) and they are a good installer from what I know, but here is the issue. It came to my attention that the G has a bypass switch that can be used when installing a remote starter, but the guys at the shop know nothing about this and I really dont have the technical explanation to give them.

The labor for the install is the big portion of the whole purchase and if they can use this switch, I know I can get a cut on labor instead of having to use the compustar stuff to bypass other stuff electronically.

I hope this makes sense to you all. My point and need for help is that I need to know more about the switch in the G that wont start unless in neutral so I can fill these guys in at the shop.

THANKS!!!

There was a decently long thread on this not too long ago. Do a search for 'PNP switch' and see if anyting pops up, I'm sure it will. To sum it up there is a wire going between the tranny and the ECU (under passengers dash) that goes to 'ground' when the car is in 'N.' You can use this signal for a Nuetral safety switch input. I forget what color it is though, but it seems like it is green/orange.

Thats the original thread I started on the subject over a year ago. The wire is green/orange (on the 04)

The pinout shoudl be the same on the ECU, if your installer is able to locate this wire please post the color of it for the rest of us!

I also gave you the wiring diagram location in a PM I just sent you. I recently had my G wired this way and have no complaints. If you need any more info, let me know.

yeah, they'll all be skeptical because its not listed on their 'cheat sheets.' I was a professional installer for a couple years while I was in college and I would have been skepticle too. Just print out that page in the service manual and take it to them. The wire is extremely easy to get to, they will like it.

Also, you can tell them that the switch is part of the no load protection of the vehicle. If the nar is in N you can only rev it up so high before the ECU takes over and cuts the throttle off, or at least that is what the service manual says....

If they still don't belive you just take it somewhere else.

That's correct. I can unlock my car to get something out of it and still be able to remote start it later without having to "reset" the chain of events. The car will start if it's in neutral, if it's not, then it won't... period.
