Where Did I F Up??

just plugged up my new Kenwood HU (double-din) this afternoon (2006 G35 coupe); HU's buttons lit up briefly, front screen lowered to expose the DVD/CD slot, but screen never came on. did this on my lunch hour. when i got back in the car to leave work, the entire OEM gauge cluster won't light up! warning lights work (brake, cruise control, turn signals, etc.), but no illumination on the gauges.

haven't had a chance to check the fuses yet (too dark), but any ideas?? i'm sure it's possible i f*cked up the harness wiring, but asking/checking for other possibilities before i try to redo the wiring from scratch.

Thanks...

If it's not fully screwed into place, that could be part of the problem, as the system grounds to the chassis through the cage the radio sits in. If it is fully installed, fuses are a likely reason.

thx; somewhat dumb(er) question, esp this late into the process: where is/are the best spot(s) to ground? i used the two inward-facing screws (capped with close-ended nuts) next to the each of the two lower mounting screws that secure the entire HU cage. is there a better spot than this?

That spot should be fine for grounding the radio.

ugh: changed the grounding sites to the mounting screws that hold the top storage/cubbyhole to the radio/AC cage, screwed everything back in, but still no-go! once the battery is re-connected, a small red "power" light comes on for about 20 seconds, then goes out, but still no screen & no functions.

i already ordered another set of harnesses to make sure they're wired properly, but if that new set still produces the same result, can i safely assume my HU is dead?

never had issues like this in my '99 Maxima...swapped out the HU twice, plus wired up an amp, sub, and all new speakers, no problems. fork.

Yep. Easy test, just wire the red and yellow of the new radio's harness directly to the battery + and black to the battery -.

If it doesn't work there, bad radio.
