Nexus 7 tablet indash project

so i recently bought a 2005 G35x sedan with premium sound trim (bose). it already has a double din and aftermarket radio, but the aftermarket indash touch screen radio has damage and screen is unresponsive so im looking to replace it with a 7 inch nexus seven. im a previous android developer so i really wanted to take on this project. im also installing a reverse camera as well. here are some questions ive had.
take a look at this

http://www.ebay.com/itm/172311724128

and tell me if i could skip buying a digital to rca converter and a new amp if i just plug this in the 30 pin connector provided near the driver seat, or will this need the stock radio to be installed in order for it to be functional?

another thing is where would i look to tap into the 12v while in reverse wire?

heres a list of the parts i got so far

If the aftermarket radio has a 30-pin harness, then yeah, all you need is to plug that in. Sound quality isn't an issue unless you replace everything in the system with very high quality components and only listen to music with the car off and in a quiet area.

12v can be found powering the reverse lights, conveniently nearby where you're putting a backup camera.

If you're talking about the one which plugs into the center console then I am pretty sure that requires the OEM stereo to function. The best way to do this would be with an equalizer (best) and then through an amplifier. There are also these little units which work well for passing the audio from the tablet through. They have a volume dial and some audio adjustments.

I did mine by taking sound from the 3.5mm jack of the tablet and passing that straight into a single din stereo which is hidden in the upper glove box. I don't ever use radio (tabs these days have radio if it has 4g etc) and if I want to play a CD I just reach across and throw it in. But that is rare again, as the tab has all my music loaded. I'll take some pics to help my explanation tomorrow.

oh yes, i would love some pictures, i also purchased some more items yesterday for my project cause i figured id run into some problems with the audio and i dont want any shipping time delaying my project further. i got a radio wire harness, dac and simple 500w after market amp, costed 11 bucks, just to simply decode and translate the signal into the car. another question i had is i saw some people using 12v to 5v converters, thats a little fancy for me, would i be able to just rip a dual 3.1 amp car charger open for this project. and another concern is the reverse camera, i will need to convert the 12v from the reverse lights into 5 and feed it through the usb going into the easy cap in order for it to power on only when in reverse. would i need some type of timer delay so it doesnt pop up everytime i cross reverse on the gear shifter.

Totally forgot to take some pictures but here's one I took in the dark.
Because the ports are on top of the tablet I had to shift it to the right in order for the connections to fit behind the dash. It is possible to make it more centered but I would have needed some fancy flush or lower profile angled headphone jack and micro usb plug. The micro usb plugs they use on display phones (in best buy/phone shop/wallmart/etc) are perfect as they are the most compact I have seen.

My clock bezel broke into a million pieces when taking it out and then it cracked again when I put it back......need a new one really.
I think you have more space behind the trim with the 2005 (facelift) dash so it should be easier.
In response to the 12v to 5v converter. I have mine plugged into the cig lighter with a normal 2 amp usb adapter. This way I can unplug and plug into my laptop to update music and whatnot. It turns the tablet screen on when it senses power, the screen dims and displays the clock after a set amount of time and remains touch sensitive until the ignition is off again and the tablet goes into standby mode. This does not, however, solve the issue if you do not drive the car for a long time. The tablet will run out of battery and I would have to snake my hand up behind the dash to turn it back on (after charging it up). The direct 5v feed ensures the tab never runs out of battery.

Soldering some wires directly to the board and bypassing the headphone/USB jack can get around the space issue - and while you're at it, you can solder a second power button in parallel to the first that is in an accessible location.

Good ideas, I had thought of opening it up to do the usb port and audio jack but I hadn't thought about doing it for a relocated on/off button!

Main reason for not doing the usb port and audio jack initially was because I wasn't 100% sure on opening up the tablet and I also didn't have much time to complete the whole project. I have since replaced an Iphone 5s charger port so I am confident to open up my tablet, now it's just a matter of time though.

no one ever try the joycon exr or exd for the steering wheel controls, and how did you bypass the bose amp or make it work?

Digging the build thread but what does the tablet provide that a android radio won't? Just curious because I have android radio and it was plug and play so just wanted to know why people just don't go that route.

I am not using steering wheel controls.
I didn't bypass the amp. I have a single din stereo taking signal from the tablet and sending it though a low line (signal) converter which then feeds the bose amp. The sound quality is very good. I am no audiophile but I can tell the difference between bluetooth sound vs 3.5mm audio jack and the sound quality difference with new vs old phones well enough to tell that my system does sound pretty nice.

Price Point, at least for my setup.
My tab was used $40 and it'll do all I ever need it to. For less than double you can pick one up with 4G etc if you want to do more fancy things with it. The single din stereo + wires + bondo + paint + tab is all under $100.
