Getting ready for JDM Double Din swap!! (04 G35 Coupe)

Hello everyone!

I'm super excited to finally be starting this upgrade, owned my 04 G35 Coupe 6MT (with Bose) for over 4 years and finally getting to it!

I have been reading Wrathernaut's thread and am AMAZED by the information/details that are there.
I am also following his shopping list, already have the JDM kit ordered w/AC controls, about to get the other items coming soon.

First question: What is the current recommendations for Stereos/Headunits? Wireless Apple Carplay is the only must for me, but narrowing it down between all the other features is proving to be difficult. Right now I am thinking about a Kenwood DMX9707S, it seems to be a good balance between price and features. However, I would love to hear recommendations from other people!

2. Does anyone have advice about a backup camera? I would like to install one while doing the stereo swap out. Are there specific types of connectors needed for hooking up to a Kenwood stereo? Are they all universal? and finally, recommendation for a good backup camera? Cruthfield has like 40 of them on their website, once again trying to narrow it down.

3. Lastly, down the road I'd like to add a sub in the trunk. With that being said, I feel it would be wise to go ahead and run the wires for it now while i"m doing all this work. I didn't see anything mentioned about incorporating sub wiring into the whole stereo swap out process in the amazing Wrathernaut's thread. Is there a good thread on here that deals with sub wiring? Welcome any input on this as well.

I gladly accept any and all input haha!

Thanks

1: The kenwood is great. I'm considering swapping out my Pioneer AVH-X5700BHS for it, but can't justify it yet.
2: The cameras are all just RCA video connections and power at the camera, and stereo hooked up to the reverse trigger wire. If you're not looking for one with any guide lines, just check quality of night video.
3: For future subwoofer plans, run 12' RCA connections and amp-on signal wires from the back of the radio to under the center armrest console. You can go so far as to run it under the carpet and pile up the wires under the rear seat, but that's optional. The power wire goes under the carpet between the passenger seat and door to the trunk, so it's effort that isn't going to be duplicated later.

Also, where are you located? I'm in the Northeast US and have a few hours on weekends I can help if you come to me.

Thanks for the reply man!
That's exactly what I was curious about on the Backup camera and sub, perfect.

I'm down in Georgia, but greatly appreciate the offer. I will definitely run some questions by you as this whole process goes on, I'm sure I will have a few!

I ordered a JDM kit and A/C controls from Infiniti of Orlando Park on Saturday, just got an email yesterday that they have discontinued selling the A/C controls and the JDM kit is on backorder from Japan and will be at least 90 days before it gets here................Ughhh, any suggestions for where else to look? I've looked at Ebay, Amazon, Nissan Race Parts, Concept Z etc. They all have it in black, but I need silver with *BROWN* vent trim. The closest I can find (hopefully) is from Z1 Motorsports which has silver with BLACK vent trim...Is there anyway I can swap the vent trim from my current dash to the new JDM? Or maybe try painting to match??

Thanks

For the 04's the Scosche is a good trim kit. You can always paint to match if you get a good painter, which is necessary even with the Scosche unit.

So amazingly I found (with much assistance) a JDM kit in Silver/Titanium with black vent trim! I will still have to figure how to paint the vent trim or what I'm going to do with that...but at least I wont have to paint the entire thing. I ended up getting it from Dereck McKesson from Grubbs Infiniti in Texas, who was referred from a guy at Orange Coast Infiniti in Cali, who was referred by Cody at Nissan Fontana(?) (Previously Nissan Race Shop). Based on my research I think this might have been the last *new* JDM kit in Titanium in the US hahaha. Z1 Motorsports only had it in solid black, which was the case with everywhere else I checked.

It should come in tomorrow and install potentially this weekend!

I have been pouring over the main thread and am still amazed at all the information I'm picking up. I laid all the wiring out on my floor and going through the wiring diagram and explanations it all makes sense!

Question; I understand that the red wire on both HU harness and PAC go together AND you add the blue wire from the PAC as well.
1. Where is it recommended to connect the red (power) wire for the ASWC-1? Should I connect here for a total of 4 wires?
2. What should I do with the blue wire from the HU harness (Labeled ANT CONTROL)? Should it just be taped up?

Many thanks!

1.Yes, ASWC-1 gets red power.
2. The ANT CONTROL from the HU is only a signal wire. It doesn't carry power to run the antenna amplifier, so yes - it doesn't connect to anything. Tape it up.

Update: Everything is installed and looking great! There is no way I could have done this without your thread Wrathernaut, I owe you one!

Everything is working perfectly EXCEPT the ASWC-1. When I turn the ignition on nothing happens at all with the little box, no lights whatsoever. I know it has power, the reference ground is hooked up as well as the other two steering wheel control wires from the M39. I am using the 3.5mm female adapter to the brown wire, which is hooked to the "remote control" blue/yellow wire on the Kenwood. I read somewhere that with certain Kenwood HU you have to solder in a resister between the brown and blue/yellow connection. Is that what is going on here or do I have a bad ASWC? I got it from Crutchfield so I was planning on checking with them (or metra) and seeing what they thought...

Thanks!

Just finished getting all the wiring connections done.

Taking the old stereo out.

Fitting the HU into the new JDM. I was lucky and didn't have to drill new holes.

JDM put into the car. Note all the various wires tucked underneath the HU.

Intentionally positioned the ASWC where I could have easy access by only having to take the trim off around the shifter ****.

Finally finished install at 3:36am in the morning, I started at about 7pm and took a few breaks. I did not want to rush anything.

So stoked to finally have this done!
