My question is how does the Omnifi mp3 controller communicate w/ the stock HU?? Since our stock HU lacks RCA outputs would we have to use an FM modulator and LOC's, similar to using a headunit w/o CD changer controls?? How is the sound quality on this type of setup w/ an FM modulator, is the sound similar to using an discman which is input into the cassette deck?? I was able to find the Omnifi unit for $249.99 on crutchfield.com so i would like to get it mounted on the cubby hole cover as shown in the pics, please PM price and setup!!

we used the PAC AA-NIS interface module. It runs about $60 - $75 bucks. Its interfaced through the un-used Sat button. Check your PM's

I am aware of the PAC AA-NIS module, however most members who use this module along w/ the SAT button dont have the factory XM installed. I have the factory XM installed so when I click on SAT it brings up XM radio. Would this still be a problem, and what if I cancelled my XM as its never used to have this done, OR could I keep XM and still use the PAC??

as far as i know, its not possible. I guess you will need to use a wired FM modulator through a non-used channel. That sucks but atleast its better than the wireless ones. I wonder if there is a "media hub" like the one that alpine has that doesnt include a video option? That would make it more affordable. If not, are there any bored electrical engineers willing to make one? Id buy one

sl2, do you think it would be possible to install the Omnifi head unit on the underside of the storage bin flip-cover, so that it is hidden? Then when you want to use it, you open the cover and you'd still have a little access into the bin too.

Another question about the Omnifi....how does it connect to the G35 stereo? SAT input or RF? How's the sound quality?

PAC AA-NIS interface module? it actually works?! that's an awesome install. a few more questions:

- what size hard drive does the unit use? - not the storage (you said 20gb) - is it a desktop hard drive (3.5") or a laptop hard drive (2.5")?

- can the hard drive be upgraded? - have you guys tried?

- how long does the full install take, and if you can post the $$$, please do!

if only i could stick like an 80GB hard drive in that thing... WOOWOO!!! that solves my MP3 playing problem in its entirety!...

and while we're at it, have you guys done any Double-Din conversions on G35 sedans? ideally, i'd want to get an alpine dvd/mp3/navigation...

Yes it is possible. I can make it hinged as well so that it can fold out fully when opened.
Its currently connected through the un-used SAT aux-in input.

1. Im not too sure but considering the size of the hard drive cartridge, i would assume its a laptop style HD.
2. I have no idea, you should probably contact Omnifi directly.
3. The install took about roughly about 10hrs including dry time for both the fiberglassing and paint portion. Actual work hours was about 6-ish. Total cost for the project was about $1200.00 with installation, parts etc. The actual cost of molding the controller and paint can be had for about $350 + shipping

- The hard drive is a laptop drive, and yes, it can be upgraded. The unit will automatically install the necessary system files when you pop in a new hard drive! There is a hack you will need to go over the 10k song limit in the SimpleCenter software.
Here are some sites to look at:
http://finance.groups.yahoo.com/group/omnifi/
http://digg.com/mods/Hack_your_OmniF...d_a_new_drive_

-Codeflux, if you want an Omnifi, I have an extra one I can sell to you.

I love the look! Too bad I have an '05 (real aluminum probably won't match as well as the paint/paint)... and that you can't use the steering wheel control. Other than that, this seems like a very solid, and inexpensive, way to add MP3 capability!

actually, i am told that you *can* use the steering wheel control via SWI-X module.
