2004 Infiniti G35 Battery Drain Issue, Due to AC and Audio Unit?!
2004 Infiniti G35 Battery Drain Issue, Due to AC and Audio Unit?!
Hey guys,
I've had this car for a handful of years and the radio never worked. You probably know the issue, lots of these had it. I never fixed it just because it was never a big enough deal and I didn't save the money to replace the audio unit. Now however, I'm wondering if I should because my problem has become much more severe now.
Just yesterday for the first time, my battery completely drained. When driving to work after jumping it the air control buttons were flashing off and on but wouldn't work. Then when I started it later, I could again change the air control settings. This morning the car thankfully started but on the way the air control buttons would begin flashing about half way through the drive.
Does this now mean my air control unit as well as the audio unit is shorting and draining the battery even when the car is off? If so, is there a somewhat inexpensive fix, or am I going to have to drop $1,000 to fix this?
I'd really appreciate any insight as this is my only vehicle to get around in.
Edit: Come to find out on my way home, if I use the button on the wheel to turn the radio on and off, when it's on I see the AC lights all flashing. As soon as I turn it off, they go to normal operation where I can adjust air, etcetera. I cannot turn on the radio with the buttons under the air controls. Hopefully this helps narrow something down.
Edit edit: This evening I was driving and the defrost buttons, the A/C button, and the button to choose to pull in air from outside of the vehicle were all flashing. I couldn't change to recycle air, it was stuck on pulling it in from the outside. I could turn off and on both the defrost buttons and that would stop them from blinking when they were turned off but as soon as I turned them back on, they would flash again. I can also control the level that the air comes out at. This all confuses me even more, but I wanted to get as much information in this post as I possibly could. I'm really hoping someone will be able to know what is going on. I can solder and use a multimeter, so if it is a repair I can do myself, that would be ideal to save my broke self some money haha.
Thanks for reading,
Chris

The vehicle will operate fine without the radio and a/c finisher installed... you just won't have control of the radio, climate control and defrost. Remove it and see if your overnight power drain issue is fixed. If so, I think this post - Parasitic Draw is draining my battery. I found the circut, now what? - Page 2 - G35Driver - Infiniti G35 & G37 Forum Discussion - is the best solution I've seen in my time here.
I am not familiar enough with the board failures to give guidance on where else to look for repairing the electronics, if the resistor thing mentioned isn't it, it's probably going to be a lot less frustration to just pick up a metra DDin kit from amazon for about $200, and then replace the radio when you can afford to than fighting with the old factory board.

Thanks a bunch,

Edit: Are you possibly able to fix the image link in this post again? https://g35driver.com/forums/audio-v...epair-diy.html
