"10 JL Audio w6 on '05 coupe
I was planning on getting a "10 JL Audio w6 w/ a 600w rockford fosquate amp next week. But my friend told me he'd rather get interior speakers all around, and that i won't be able to hear the base so it's gonna be a waste of money. He heard a G coupe w/ 2 "12 JL Audio w3's and said it sounds like sh**. Anyone w/ experience help me please.
Well I have two Infiniti 10" subs in a custom box, and to tell you the truth from out side the car you hear A LOT of vibration. But from inside you can hear it fine, just like any other sub set up in any other car. I would recomend, esspecially if its a 10W6, to use dynamat all over the trunk area to cut vibration. Also if you use a 600W amp, make sure that your using a cap, because before I installed my cap my headlights were dimming at hard bass hits.
Not sound like a smartass, but you're friend is somewhat right. You don't hear most bass frequencies, you feel them and secondly this is your car not your friends so do what makes you happy. Also what might have sounded like crap to him may sound good to you. You put an awful lot of weight into your "friends" opinion. Do what makes you happy. If you think the stereo sounds ok in your car now and just needs some bass then just add the sub and don't worry about the inside speakers. Now If you think the inside speakers sound like crap then work on getting those replaced. So do what makes you happy.
I've got a Boston 12.5 in my trunk in a custom box hooked up to a PPI 500.1 amp, and I've got TONS of bass.
I don't listen to rap, and I don't plan on entering any SPL-type contests, but I have plenty of low frequency, and I've got the amp dialed way back to boot.

You would be suprised how much improvement to the system you would get by just putting in some bass. You will hear it. Your friend may have just heard a car that was not properly set up. I could also see 2-12s in a G be easily overpowering if the rest of the system has not been upgrade. I do alot of G's and most with either a single 10 or two 8 inch subs playing through the stock 6x9 holes and it sounds phenominal.

Hey, i just got 2-10w6v2's installed in my car with a custom enclosure. I had the subs facing in towards the seats and i usually roll with the backseat down and its perfectly fine. Since i faced them in the cab, i don't even hear the trunk rattle from outside. The only thing is that the part of the car where the rear speakers are located has a bit of a rattle on some frequencies, which i will dynomat. But i dont suggest u do this unless you plan on leaving the backseat down most of the time. I gotta tell you tho, i've gotten alot of props on how good the system looks and sounds. And by the way, in my opinion 2 12's is too much for the coupe, but its all on preference
