i envy about ppl who got navi
well, like title said it all, i envy ppl who got navi... i am just kinda regret that i didnt get the navi at the first place. Everytime when i go to the dealer and get car wash, i always ended it up in the lot and check out with the sedan with navi and start dreaming about "what if i had navi in my car, would it be so much nicer~.. sigh" i just like the way it pops up and push down. Also with multiple functions in it. Sometimes i was thinking should i just trade in my car and get the one with navi but it would cost way too much to do so... plus i love my twlight blue color, it's limited edition color (i heard the color its coming back..) so i guess i just have to live with it.. does anyone here feel the same way as i do?

Sigh no more bro. Go for an aftermarket Navi. There's nice ones out there at a reasonable price, that'll fit right in the same cubby hole.
Trading would be too costly.

PM 'Ramborami'-- he researched this and came up with a nice unit.
Also 'Mstil35' I believe installed a nice unit.

From what I've heard it's about a $6k install. Cheaper to sell the car and buy new.

Hi,
In San Jose there is a place called Autonav2000, by far the best. Search them out on the internet.

It's called a Thomas guide.
I have better things to throw that kind of money at.
Everything else is a loss leader for an item like that that they laugh at you for getting and think, what a sucker!!!

I agree 100%. I can't speak for others, but I would probably need to use it no more than twice per year. For the additional $2000, that's a bad investment. I just keep a map handy.

Re: i envy about ppl who got navi
I currently in the process of purchasing a new home, so I've held off buying my G. During this period, I've had time (too much time) to think about my perfect G.
Initially I didn't want sunroof (I'm 6'3" tall), didn't want Bose (from what I've read it isn't worth it), didn't want Navi (couldn't see spending 2k when a $2.00 map will do just fine).
Now that has changed. I will get the Bose just because of the steering wheel stereo controls & I will most likely get the Navi. Yes, a map will do just fine for finding streets, but a map can't direct you to the nearest gas station - a map can't direct you to the nearest ATM machine - and a map can't give you alternate directions in case a road is closed or traffic is backed up. I still think 2K is outrageous for a Navi system, but broken down over 5 years, that's only a few dollars per month for something that could really come in handy - especially during long road trips.

Good forsight, bro. I've had one now a couple of years and not regretted the dough. A decent selling feature too.

You get the steering wheel controls w/o the Bose.
However, you have to get the Premium Package before you can get Nav, which of course nets you the Sunroof and Bose.
And a $2 map won't show you exactly where you are on that map, which direction you're heading, and how far away the next turn is to get to your destination.
The Nav came in handy this weekend during our road trip to Vegas for getting from point A to point B w/o having to mess with traffic on The Strip.

It's called Mapquest!
I'll bet you're a big enough boy now that you could find an ATM or a gas station all by yourself if you really, really tried. Then you'd have an extra two G's -- so to speak...

Kinda hard to whip out the ol' personal computer and dial up the internet when you're driving down the street at 40mph.
And even then, MapQuest can't find things you don't have an address for.
Although, the Nav system isn't perfect. It can find the closest 5 ATM's for instance, but I challenge you to find the nearest Wells Fargo ATM (or Bank of America, or whatever bank you use). It can find the nearest Fast Food restaurant, but what if I'm specifically craving KFC? Go ahead and try that one. It's not perfect, but it is nice.
I'm wondering how much of the programming is builtin to the unit, and how much of it is on the DVD discs. A map update with some program updates would be worth the money, but a map update alone I can live without.

Re: i envy about ppl who got navi
Yeah, $2k is a little steep for Nav but that's what you pay when you're an early adopter. I remember back when power windows, mirrors and door locks were a luxury, now it's practically expected. How about anti-lock brakes, before, it was rare, now almost every quality car has them. I don't think Nav will reach that saturation but it won't be long before a lot of cars have them and they'll be as common place as sunroofs.
Question is, do you want it now or in 3 years when it'll cost $800 or whatever.
