oh!!! no way the install is going to cost only $200 (except in o.c.). i've seen quotes from $500 and up for dvd/nav installs and custom stereo installs for g35's and other new cars (2004 and up).

first post, but something I've been watching a while.. Pioneer now has the Avic D series ... they are very well known for the N1 and N2 navs... (the 2 series adding realtime traffic measure overlay to the screen - wanna know how long it's going to REALLY take to get there?). The D is a great designed unit (none of that weird angled buttons of the eclipse) but it won't play DVD video. Seems like they didn't even bother with the sensor cable, just said the hell with it, no video for you. All in all, well worth the 1300 or so it is being listed for around the net. Go read more at crutchfield - they are now selling it (for a much higher price of course).

its $200 for a basic navi install, this is a simple swap out of stock headunit and replace with aftermarket, no custom stuff here needed for my unit...

$500, thats too expensive mang

i know it's expensive for such installs....that's why i've always installed stereo equipment myself in my other cars. i totally believe you about the price being $200 in orange county. i visit there a lot since my wife is from anaheim hills. and EVERYTHING is cheaper down there.....at least for the asian places (food, services, products), that is. the $500 and up is the number that other members have been quoted.

does anyone have more info on the factory navigation? like for example the manual, or some screenshots, so i can see what the nav looks like, and what it can do?

maybe a pdf file with directions/pictures or something??

Any videos out there of the nav going up and down?

yes and if you turn the car off while its up, then it goes down automatically and if you turn the car back on, it comes up automatically....(none of this happens if its down in the first place)

And the manual is almost an inch thick my man, (yes there is a whole seperate manual just for the navi)

you SHOULD get the factory NAV. Especially if your getting an 05 as the screen pops up atomatically when you start up the car. It gives you your current MPG as you drive the car (there is a leaf that is full when you are belo 2k rpm and goes empty as you floor it). You will regret it if you dont get the stock one. If you want a DVD player, you can even mod the stock one or simply add another DVD player.

Thanks all again for your input. I was originally leaning towards not getting the factory nav and then adding an aftermarket radio/dvd/nav. Now I'm back to getting the stock nav. Seems like buying and installing (and also modifying the dash) the aftermarket radio will be alot of work - and almost if not more expensive than the stock nav.

Anyway - I should be getting my G35 this week. Fully loaded now that I'm getting the stock nav. I'm getting the 6MT with premium/aeor/nav!! Cant wait!

I'll upload some pictures this week of me crying as I give away my BMW 330Ci, and then some pictures of me smiling as I drive home in my new G35!!

i'd say get the factory nav. if you are getting a brand new car.
you dont wanna mess around with a new car.
if you deperately need all those goods, get the one without it.
i am more into performance/appearance. i would get it if i was you.

I elected not to get it because I don't want the Bose stereo system in the car, it sucks. I ordred my car with full Aero and a sunroof and skipped out on the premium package as well as the NAV. That way I have a bunch of green bills to put in the Eclipse unit or the Digital wheelz conversion should he make it. The factory nav is $2k, for that money you can get the Eclipse double din that does MP3, DVD, Navigation, the works and sounds crisp and clean unlike the Bose. If you don't get the premium package you'll have plenty of $ for good speakers to go along with it as well.

You should see the faces of friends/coworkers who get into my G and I flip a hidden switch and the nav changes to a DVD movie- priceless! The picture is crystal clear using a PlayStation2 and an AVElectronic nav video switcher w/ S-video input.
