Is the stock stereo compatible for an amp and sub?

I'm pretty much a noob to the audio forum, so here goes a noob question. Is the stock (non-bose) stereo in the G35 coupe capable of supporting an amp and subwoofers?

No but I think PAC Audio makes a unit that allows for stock systems to run with after market amps.

The unit is an AOEM-NIS2 - it provides 4 rca outputs without any splicing, cutting, etc. BUT it does require pulling out the center console to get to the plugs in the back (a real P.I.A.).

The "stock, non-Bose" HU you are talking about is the same one in the "premium" and "non-premium" systems Infiniti offers. They are both Clarion HU's.

The only difference between the premium and non-premium (commonly referred to as a non-Bose system) is that the premium system adds a 245W? Bose amp and Bose 6x9 subs on the rear shelf. Again, the HU's are the same in each system.

So....to add an amp and subwoofers to the stock Clarion HU, you have to add LOCs for your amps and then run your subs off your amp(s). A simpler option people have commonly done is to splice in a self-powered (amped) sub like the Infinity Basslink off the rear shelf or backseat speakers.

Hope this helps...

On my old G20 when I added my amp and subs, I bought a High Level to Low Level converter because I was still running the stock head unit. The converter worked good and it allowed me to splice it into the wires that go to my back speakers then I connected the RCA cables to it that ran to the amp.

I would also like to know the best way to hook up two amps to the bose HU. I have a four channel and a mono amp.

I had this done (https://g35driver.com/forums/audio-video-electronics/52667-my-new-stuff-elemental-designs-diamond-audio-4080-box-pics.html) recently to my sedan (2 aftermarket amps, new component speakers up front, new coaxs in the rear, and a new subwoofer) and it sounds awesome.

I had an installer do it (the whole process was too intimidating for me), but they basically disconnected the Bose amp, installed 2 LOCs, and then hooked up the wires from the LOCs to the respective amps. They also took out the Bose sub to let sound in better from the trunk.

Hope this helps!

Hi htn,

I think "LOC" stands for "line out converter"? Someone correct me if I'm incorrect.... Basically, it takes the signal from the head unit and converts it into a signal that can be fed into an aftermarket amplifier (sorry, forgot the more detailed explanation...once I found out I'd most likely need one, the reason behind it left my brain ). I think there's a couple amps out there that don't require separate LOCs, but it seems like a majority do if you want to run an amp off of the factory head unit.

LOCs run around $20-$50, and I ended up getting a 4 channel one for the speakers in the cabin and one for the sub. David Navone has a good reputation: http://www.davidnavone.com/adaptor_products.htm.

As far as the fader goes, yes, it still works. The balance and tone controls also work, and so does the SSV.

Hope this helps!

so does it mean using a PAC AOEM-NIS2 adapter has better sound quality than any LOC?

actually, i am not entirely certain that the bose and non-bose headunits are entirely the same

nissan has three separate part numbers for the 2003-2004 radios:

Radio w/Bose Audio System w/Navigation System
28188-AM860
1827.85

Radio w/Bose Audio System w/o Navigation System
28188-AC360
1507.27

Radio w/o Bose Audio System w/o Navigation System
28188-AM670
1827.85

This may mean that even though all headunits are made by Clarion, there are three different varioations, each possibly with different output values.
