Removing/Replacing Infiniti Analog clock
Removing/Replacing Infiniti Analog clock
I'm not in love with the analog Infiniti clock sitting in the middle of the top dash panel and was wondering if anyone has replaced the panel with the Skyline version which appears to have a digital clock? See pictures.

Guys,
It's great you both like the appearance of the analog infiniti clock but I don't share your opinion which is why I would like to get rid of it. I will go so far as to say I think it looks incredibly tacky in a car with such beautiful design.

Im not saying I ADORE the analogue, I mean, its Good... what I am saying is that the change may be possible (depending on the connectors the *** version has... I suppose they are compatible, I mean, why bother making 2 totally different devices) its just that buying that whole display thing must cost an arm and a left nut.
Maybe some guys on the forum that have opened up their dash might know how that device looks like and may further assist you. On the mean time, look for the $$$ of it and then ask yourself if it is worth it.

I appreciate your concern regarding the expense of replacing the analog clock however since it doesn't bother you, it's not surprising you don't understand why someone would be able to justify the expense to replace it. This is a modification forum and many of the mods done are for personal taste period. If someone wants to convert all the LEDs in the dash to blue, more power to them.
I don't want to turn this into a discussion on whether individuals like or don't like the analog clock on their G35, and would like to see it stay focussed on the topic raised which is still,
Are people who have swapped out G35 analog clock/circuit board for the Skyline version which has an LED clock?

Even aside fromt he harness connections, I'm thinking there may be a possibility that the display itself may not be accurate. Particularly on models with dual climate. #1, will there be a difference, and #1, will it correspond to the correct side? I can't really aswer the questions directly, but these are things I would check before jumping into this. Chances are, you can remove your existing molex connections and plug the pins from the Skyline dash piece into it, making sure you place them in the correct slots. If the pins are not the correct kind you can simply buy new pins and replace the old ones.

not down w/analog
As a computer engineer I'm sure that you can imagine how I'm not down w/the analog clock also. I also would like to replace it, but I dunno about going through all that dash replacement stuff. I was considering designing my own digital clock (relatively easy) and fitting it in the old analog clock space. I think the hardest part would not be custom building the clock but instead making it look good in the old clocks space. Just an idea for the future, unless anybody knows of any other digi clocks that can be immediatly switched out?
I spent some time working on a project like this last year. I took a digital clock out of a Mini Cooper and installed it in my 04 G35. The color and pixilation did not match up. I spent some time talking with LCD manufacturers and couldn't get anything lined up (min 5,000 pieces was a bit too much). I then tried to find 'off the shelf' LCDs and had no luck with that, because of the soft amber color.
Then, my car got Tboned and I haven't messed with it at all since then. But... one thing I did notice, is that after my car was fixed the body shop didn't put the trim piece over the radio and I could see the actual LED that make up the radio display and they are green! This has me thinking that if you get a G35 radio cover plate and put it over a green digital clock it will come out perfect.
Oh, and the analog clock is only analog in appearance. It is completely electronic (down the the time set button). It has a 3 or 4 wire plug on the 04s.

G35 Analog Clock bulb replacement
Hey guys, just figured out a great way to pull the plastic piece to get to the clock. Don't use a screwdriver, if it slips you scratch the plastic. Use a credit card! Wedge it between the plastic and the dash at a corner and use that as leverage, pull it towards you (not up) and it will pop out! Then go to the other corner and do the same. Also, the bulbs from my 2003 G35 simply screwed out and back in again, there were no wires to deal with. I bought the bulbs from the dealership, I think it was around $3.00 total. So, just saved around $150.00 by not using the dealership.
