My friend istalled my stereo a while ago. I used an LOC from the stock amp. I installed two phoenix gold amps and a set of Mb Quart QSD's up front.
Souds great accept there is noise, a consistant kind of buzz, even when I turn off the stereo. He says this is normal when you use an LOC from a stock amp.
Anyone else experience this? Is it true and the only way I can get rid of the noise is to do the DD conversion?
PS I think the noise is fuel pump.

couple considerations....
1. is there adequate grounding of amps? i.e *short* *fat* grounding wires on *bare* metal?
2. are power wires(for amps) too close to RCAs/interconnects?
3. are you using good braided shielded interconnect cables (or cheapo RadioShaq RCAs)?
Don't know if it is your fuel pump b/c most times buzzing is usually the alternator noise. try spreading your power and grounding wires as far apart as possible. Try to keep the most space between your power and interconnect wires.
A cheapo LOC can potentially give you alternator noise as well too...

I took out the back set to get a look at the wires. The speaker wire on the driver side is running parallel to the powere wires. Could this be causing the noise?

I agree, power wires and speaker wires should not lead to alternator noise.....its usually RCAs and power wires or inadequate grounding. What kind of RCAs did they use?

All the RCA's are Phoenix Gold. I used all the same wiring in my last car and had the same noise, plus engine noise. They were RCA's he had sitting around the shop, mayble I should try another set. He says you will always get noise with a LOC and it is unavoidable, but I know many of you have the same setup with no noise.
Frustrating. Spend thousands on stereo equipment to have a great sounding system w/NOISE.
Oh yeah I was the grounding wires in the last install, probably the same here. There were three huge wires.
