$2500 for a new radio!!!!!??????
so i dont post that often, more of a lurker, but this is killing me. i have watched the folks around here have the dreaded ERROR FO problem. well it hit me on monday. i call my local infiniti dealer (austin infiniti) tell them of the problem. they ask me my mileage and i tell them........64 grand. they proceed to say that its no longer covered an ill have to purchase a new one. and you guessed it from the thread title......2500 bucks. my exact words were "are you f'n kidding me" talk to the service manager and tell him how i have seen here, 6mt.net, and FA how several people have had the same problem (hell i remember one guy being on his 3rd player) and he proceeds tell me that thats not indicative of a problem since only a minority of owners are on the sites. i tell him that he's right, but if only a small percentage post, than im sure that there are quite a bit more that have the same problem. i take the car in next week to see what "infiniti" wants to do about the problem. i swear i am almost done with infiniti. $800 for a brake job that is easier than cake, and now this. they had better do right by me or im back to lexus. sorry for the vent.......

ask them for internal goodwill... You are just BARELY over warranty. Tell them that you're a loyal customer and have spent money there.
I work for Infiniti, and we sometimes still warranty some things even after the warranty has expired.
If they say no, tell them you're upset and that you will not return. also note that you hope that you will get a survey in the mail. Service manager's get paid by the CSI. customer satisfaction.
let em' know you're going back to lexus and that you're going to lexus to trade in your car.

Id think youd be able to find a unit from one of our guys here that did a double DIN conversion

ack... I'll have to remember to get one of those extended warrenties before mine expires... They rip you off so much with anything on this car. The sick part is I'm sure they would fix the head unit after they take it out of your car and put it back in someone else's car as "refurbished"
Dr. Rick,
I am the Parts Manager at a San Francisco, CA "Bay Area" Infiniti Dealership.
When client's cars come into our shop for "out of warranty" radio/audio unit complaints (such as yours) we offer the following "fix":
1. Remove the FACTORY "audio head unit" from the client's car
2. Send to LOCAL car audio repair center named "Short Circuit" (San Jose, CA)
3. Repair center repairs "audio head unit" in 1-2 days
4. We receive client's "audio head unit" back to our shop
5. Call client to schedule re-installation of repaired "audio head unit"
The clients will be driving around with a "hole" in their dash and no "tunes" to listen to for approximately one week...
The repair charge averages about $200 (plus removal/re-installation charge)
This same repair center also offers a 12 month/12,000 mile warranty on their repairs as well.
If you have any further questions, let me know...

, which dealership you work for?
I've been told by slaesperson that you can purchase extended warranty 12 months after you purchase the car, but coverage start at the date you purchase the car.

The first is for "new" cars and must be purchased within 6 months (and XX miles) of original owner's purchase.
The second type can be purchased at any time up to the point of the factory warranty's expiration (4 yr, 60k). If considering this type, it is best to purchase just before the factory warranty expires.
