Car Computer

Gaging interest in a car computer that I am considering selling. Here are the specs:
The car computer comes with:
-7" touchscreen monitor
-Wireless keyboard with integrated mouse
-2 Ghz + cpu that is soldered so that the change of temperature in a car (expand and contract) wont effect it.
-DVD, CD-R drive.
-256 mb DDR ram.
-40 GB Harddrive.
-PCI slot with PCI wireless internet card (go online anywhere there is a wireless siginal, I bought a wireless router for my home computer and can use the car computer in the driveway or go to a ton of places. Ex. Panera or Starbucks).
-4 USB 2.0 ports.
-Navigation antenna with Delorme navigation software.
-Windows XP.
There is more to it but these are the major specs and items included.

dont want to ruin the thread or anything, but soldering a chip in like that is not necessary at all...in fact, its probably better that you didnt....

Its not only the change in temp is also all the vibration too. I met the guys who designed the system and they told me that they had tested computers in cars for over 3 years and had come to the conclusion that it was a better choice to solder the chip.

I've been doing carputers for longer then that and never had a problem due to using a typical ZIF socket.

Are you sure you don't have it the other way around? Soldered joints make a better connection, but are much more suseptable to breaking due to drastic thermal changes as the strength of the solder is low compared to the other typical materials and will fail to fatigue before any other component. I don't see why they would be effected any less by vibration either as ZIF connections aren't permenantly bonded like soldered joints and can withstand alot of movement.

Maybe I misunderstood. I am not an expert when it comes to computers and I talked to the guy for about an hour about the specs, software etc... when I bought it so maybe I got it wrong.

You need to come up with a new price man, 2000 is ridiculous
I do installations including parts for less than that!

Seriously, you can get the parts that you have for about 1000$ including the LCD (and I'm being VERY generous with my 1000$...)

People just can get a modded xbox and connect to their lcd's all for about 500$, so I suggest readjusting your price if you want your pc to sell...

BTW, nice set up, why are you selling it?

There is $500 in software (XP, Delorme, Dashtop etc...) alone on this computer. The screen itself is just about $400. Then you have to add the computer with the wireless PCI card, wireless keyboard with integrated mouse, Navigation antenna, DVD, CD-R drive, wiring etc.... You can buy an aftermarket deck with 7" screen and navigation for $1500 and it doesn't come with the harddrive, internet and software that a computer has. You can do a hundred times as many things as you can do with an aftermarket deck. I might have it sold and will update as things progress. Any other inquiries contact me at crai6m4ck@hotmail.com
