Power outlet in car?

Is it possible to err install a power outlet(regular?) in the car which draws power from the battery, and a Video/Audio input(like those u have in ur TV) which is linked to the indash dvd player?
What are the correct terms for them(I'm not an audiophile)? and where would be the best place to mount one(concealed maybe)?

edit: I intend to power stuff from laptops to PS2s , will that be a problem?

you need a 12V to 110V inverter. get yours in an auto department of your local walmart or home depot.

power outlets

Speaking of which, do the 05's only have one power outlet, under the armrest? I guess that I am used to SUV's which have like 3 or 4. The cigarrette lighter cannot be used as one can it?

Thanks.

not sure about 2005 models, but my 2003.5 has 3 outlets - one in the arm-rest, and two more on each side of the center console (one at driver's right knee, one at passenger's left knee).

Either the cigarette lighter or the regular power outlets will work, however, it is recommended that you only use the specifically marked power outlets for powering anything and don't exceed the wattage recommendations on them.

The only real difference, I believe, between the outlets is the length and gauge wire the outlets use, with the power outlets using a slightly lower guage to allow for more power, safely. I wouldn't recommend hooking up an inverter to the cigarette lighter port or anything that draws alot of power if you can avoid it, but more then likely the only bad thing that will happen if you do exceed the capabilities of the port is you will blow a fuse.

hmm what about the Video/Audio(Yellow Red White) input if I don't wanna hardwire the ps2 or something to the car(plug anything in)? Can I install an outlet for those somewhere in the car?

05's have two power outlets. One inside arm rest and the other is the lighter thing that is located in the trash compartment below the stereo.

Radioshack has 12v to 110v converter. Make sure your car is ON while you use 110V or your battery will drain FAST.

DC to AC converters are very inefficient - so yes, keeping the car running is important. Most equipment (laptop, PS2) just converts this back to DC. It is MUCH more efficient to get a DC/DC power suppy (converts batteries 10-14V to a clean steady 12V) - check out www.logicsupply.com and www.mp3car.com - (I use the OPUS 150W to power my car PC and some ancillary low power equipment).

If you need another voltage, you may be able to find the appropriate DC/DC converter online.

I've got an inverter that I hook up to either the port in the arm rest or the one on the passenger side. I use it for my video camera, bullet cam and aux. mike when taking vids while rolling. Haven't had any problems with it. If you go this route I would suggest to get a good quality inverter.

As it was stated here before, only use those two ports, not the cig lighter port. This was told to me also by the service manager at our local infiniti dealer.

I'm using the passenger side outlet to power my xbox via an inverter, no issues, no noise, no heat, all working fine.
