new InfinitY speakers...

i recently heard of new infinity speakers that run at 2 ohms i believe, making them a direct replacement for the blose speakers. i believe they are around $300 for the pair...anyone confirm this?
also, would i really get that greater of a sound out of this without replacing the bose amp? i def. want to keep the stock hu for the time, and would rather keep the bose amp to keep the cost down, but dont want to just replace the bose speakers if i'm not going to get that much better a sound out of it.
thx in advance

that would be great if there was a cost effective way of getting better quality sound on the stock headunit.

Run a search on the infinity speakers. I know someone just replaced the speakers a month or so ago. I have the Kappa and Perfect Lineup of speakers in my car and they sould awesome, but I am also driving them at 150watts RMS each. Check ebay for prices, should be around $200/pr on ebay. Thats where I got mine. I have the stock HU in there now, but I have a Kenwood DDX7015 that is waiting for the DD kit to come so it can be installed. The EQ on the stock HU is not good at all, its "tuned" for the BLOSE speakers. But changing out the speakers will definately sound much better.

I think the person that swapped just his speakers was happy with the sound. What is the "best" is always up to the individuals taste and budget. Try just doing the speakers, and if you are still not happy, and an amp. I've always been a firm believer in having ample power to your speakers. I've always tried to match the RMS speaker handling to the RMS output of the Amps, I've always been happy with the clarity and volume capabilites when matching the power. You also do not want to get a cheap "flea market" amp. If it claims 2000 watts and its $100, odds are it will be crap. Like I said try swapping the speakers first, and if you are still not happy, you can always add to it. If you want a full blown nice system in your car plan on about 2500-4000, mainly depending on if you are capable of doing your own install work, which has saved my $1000s over the pass few years. One other thing I have seen on the board is that a few people advise forgoing replacing the 6x9s on the rear deck. I replaced mine and that is where I noticed some of the biggest improvements in sound quality. Its not that difficult to replace the rear speakers, just be a little careful as the rear deck is fragile. IMO remember that what one person says is the best sounding speaker, may sound like garbage to you, so audition the speakers if you can before you buy them, and buy what you like, not what everyone else says is the best.
