ECLIPSE AVN2454 or PIONEER AVIC D-1

Ok, these are both pretty similar units to me. They have touchscreens, navi, double cd slots. I know the Eclipse plays movie dvd's while the pioneer does not. And I also know the Eclipse spits 50 watts to the speakers while the pioneer is 30 watts, so the Eclipse has a better sound capability, no?
All in all, they seem to be similarly priced, have similar functions, both are good brands. Is there anything else I'm missing??

SO WHICH ONE IS BETTER??!!!!! WHY?!!!!! HELP!!!!!!!!!

Both units put out 50 watts, If you use an amp the Pioneer actually has higher pre-outs...

Eclipse 0.8v VS Pioneer 2.0v

The AVIC-D1 will have a more updated DVD map too. If you want eclipse, buy the AVN5435 instead....

damn, I didnt realize the pre out voltages were so low on both those units. For $1000, they should be up at 4.0v

I've never had any experience with either unit, anyone who owns either of these could let me know how happy they are with them?

Thanks guys!

AVIC does route guidance with input from XM traffic.. so when you say fastest route, it calculates the fastest route AT THAT TIME. That alone is why I've been drooling for this thing.

cheers

differences aside from the obvious between the two would be the Eclipse offering 5V/55Ohm preouts, faster updating,faster/more sensitive response on the touchscreen,THREE year warranty, theft coverage,etc..

My opinion....Eclipse all the way. I had the Av8022 in my old car...best sound quality esp with the low 55 ohm output. I dont know why Eclipse dropped their voltage output on their higher end units though...that sux.

I did a lot of research on these units and I didn't find any noticeable difference in touchscreen sensitivity...

About the unit being faster updating, I'm not sure since I didn't drive around with both units, but I did find this the AVN5435 user manual...

1. When MP3 is being played, navigation operation will become slower. This is not
a malfunction of the system.
The Eclipse unit also only supports mp3's encoded up to 128kbps...

AVIC-D1 has a better screen with a resolution of 336,960 pixels and AVN5435 has a screen resolution of 280,800 pixels.

The Eclipse 5435 also can't search by category...such as looking for the nearest Italian restaurant.

fyi, there is no way to bypass the parking brake sensor for the D1. Found this out after installing it on my brothers car. If the unit detects that your car is moving, it will give you a parking brake error and disable all navi functions.

I just got the Pioneer D1 for my GF's Tc and we loved it over the weekend the route guidance and voice command were very accurate and made our weekend much better... The sound was much better than the stock system the only thing is that you need an extra DVD player to play dvds..
