Garmin c330 Nav

Well we broke down yesterday and picked up a portable nav unit for our G35X. We purchased the Garmin StreetPilot c330. Our initial impression is it simply rocks. It is not as high tech as some of the others but it seems to do everything we need and it is portable, we can use it in any vehicle.
It is totally plug and play, very user friendly. I purchased it, walked out to the parking lot, set it in my stock nav cubby and plugged it in. It quickly picked up the satellites and was dead easy to initialize. A couple minutes later I plugged in home (1 1/2 hours away) and it took us there with good clear voice prompts and touch screen. I tried to fool it by taking wrong turns and it constantly updated us with a new route. In bright sunlight it can be hard to see, but other than that we just love it.
I took a couple of pics to show it sitting in the Nav cubby and to show a couple of the screens ( I never realized it showed the maximum speed reached until my wife pointed it out, OOPS ) .
Skeleton cru - Eloy thanks for the assistance, you helped us to make the final choice, and we are looking forward to using it on our East Coast trip .
Wayne

I purchased mine Garmin 330 several months ago, it is amazing! I have it set up in the stock nav cubby as well. Did you use some type of velcro to hold it down? My system moves every now and then when taking a sharp turn. Anyways, congrats on a great purchase!

Oh, the only annoying thing is that you have to plug the adapter into the cigarette lighter and the wire can be seen because it goes over the headunit. I wish there was a way to power it using a cleaner method...

Thanks stylez, for the initial use I am certainly impressed, We'll see how it works after we put a few thousand miles on it during our trip. I just adjusted the nav mounting bracket so it would stay in the cubby, but I agree, with aggressive driving it could slide around in there. I'll have to give it some thought as to it's final placement.

inTgr8r.. Ian, it's not as nice as your Pioneer unit, but as a straight mobile GPS that is portable, it might be just the ticket for Pat and the girls.
We'll have to do some comparisons on the trip.

very nice Wayne. Where did you get it? Is it North America wide or just Canada?

I bought it at Best Buy by Fairview Mall. It is loaded for all N America just plug it in. It comes with a cd and usb cord so you can hook up to your puter and download any updates directly to the nav unit from the Garmin site. Cru has the same unit and he said it worked great on his 3,000 mile trip through the US this summer. I have been running a Garmin GPS chart plotter on my boat for a few years and it has given me very good service. If you lived a bit closer I would loan it to you for a few days to try out.

Great unit, Wayne, you'll love the extra 'company' on trips, and to just play with. Wonderful tool and toy.
Detatchability/portability has its advantages too.

I'll have a close look in Moncton. Enjoy.

Colin.

can you take the navi system off a G35 and put it on a non-navi G? I would think its just a matter of hooking wires up. or no?

the amount work required to make this happen is horrendous. it's been discussed before - cheaper and easier to go with aftermarket Navi than to install the infiniti's one.

very true...some of the guys installed built in Nav units and you definitely require lots of patience and know-how. The Pioneer units are awesome.
So I went the easy route and got a portable nav unit.

Just drill a hole through the bottom-left of the compartment and it will lead you out "left-down". Then use driver's side lighter socket. The hole should be at the front-left corner of the compartment bottom.
