well my question is pretty simple... since it has been discontinued, i was wondering if dropping $1000 roughly on ebay (new) would be a bad idea for the eclipse avn2454. Its been something ive been wanting and saving for.... and the cost is definatly less of a factor at 1000 dollars, but what about software updates and things of this nature. Ive only had experience with factory installed nav systems and dont know how other companies do it. I live in a developing community currently, so i know how bad nav sucks if its a couple of years out of date with roads and such... ssoooooo what would you say to the idea of buying the avn2454?

 

I would contact eclipse first and ask about the availability of software upgrades in the future for that headunit. Based on their response, decide what to do.

If they do plan on offering continued product support, which i am assuming they will, then for $1000, it is a very good hu.

Keep in mind though that if you buy it off of ebay, the warranty will not be honored by eclipse. If something goes wrong, you will usually have to pay a hefty amount to get it fixed.

 

You can put a 1 year warranty on the HU for $96.99 if you buy it on ebay between $900.01 - $1,000.00

You can put a 1 year warranty on the HU for $109.99 if you buy it for between $1,000.01 - $1,500.00

I believe you can extend this warranty as well.

That still isn't an eclipse warranty though. Keep that in mind.

 

Still not worth the risk IMO. Youll also lose your theft coverage.

The update disc is a few nundred bucks.
