Shock sensor installed 05'

I was bored this past weekend so I decided to install the DEI 504m shock sensor. I have to say, it's the best investment you could do without spending a whole lot. I only spent $25.75. $25 for the sensor itself, purchased from http://www.autotechs.com/items/item1081.htm, and $0.75 from radio shack for the diodes. The rest of the supplies I had laying around the garage (ie - solder gun, black electric tape, and two Y-connectors).

Instead of doing another pointless DIY post, you can find the instructions here:

Good Luck!

A good upgrade would be to make your car "Arm" itself after the door has been locked. I think for this you would just need to have the door lock (power signal) activate the +12V of the shock sensor, so you won't need to add a switch like redwillow wrote in his conclusion. This way it would be on ONLY when the car has been locked.

Edit: But don't forget your car is also locked when your in it driving! So you may need to find a signal wire other than the door lock ones. El Duderino is on point with his statements.

I guess his search for a wire that is grounded ONLY when the Ignition is off did not include the Ignition wire itself at the keyswitch.

When you turn the Ignition off, that wire is pulled low by the relay coils tied to it that are grounded on the other side.

You could ground the sensor to the Ignition wire.

i followed those instructions and the install went wonderful. I love the shock sensor, it works great. One thing I did was wrap the actual unit itself in heat resistant black tape, exposing only the sensativity screw... That way if it rains water wont get inside of it. Awesome mod for the money. Gives me a small sense of wellbeing when I park and leave my car for the day.

Wait a minute... you put the sensor out under the hood?

That thing is designed for in-cabin use only... I woulnd't have any trust in its ability to withstand heat in the engine compartment.
