Question Looking for pics of upper glovebox with nav and maybe open dash pics

Does anybody have a pic of the upper glovebox with the nav dvd drive in it? I'm brainstorming and would like to see how they put stuff in there. Also, for those of you that have taken your dash apart, is there room behind the glove box area or the center area for a small case, say 3"hx11"wx8"d? Thanks.

Ed

Not behind the head unit no, and not even behind the glove box. What is this case? A drive? If so you can maybe modify your upper cubby assuming you don't have the OEM rom or else find somewhere else in the car.

Well that sucks. It would be a small mini-itx or even nano-itx pc case. I really don't want to put the carputer in the trunk and run wires all the way up. I'd love to put everyting in the upper cubby, but it's just too small. I'll probably at least put the dvd drive in the cubby, but was hoping I could keep the carputer up front.

That would be great if you could. I'd really appreciate it. My dealer doesn't have any cars with nav so I couldn't look there.

There's really no room behind the radio or glove box for a carputer. You might be able to fit one in the stock nav dvd location but your dimensions might be a little larger than what's available. I've taken that area apart to see what would fit but I don't think I wrote down the measurements.

There are dimensions and pictures of the upper glove box on the digitalwheelz DIN converter page: http://www.digitalwheelz.com/G35DinConverter_Fit.htm

Suffice it to say there is no good way to fit something 8" deep in there.

Getting to the trunk is pretty easy. Especially on the 05's, I think its much easier then getting behind the glove box.

Thanks for the info. It does look like a lot of work just to get the upper glove box out. I would at least put a dvd drive in there so I'll probably have to take that apart anyway. I had this all planned out before I got the car and no I have to go back to the drawing board because of space constraints. I'm waiting for your '05 screen and housing to come out, so I have at least that long to figure it out.

Removing the upper glove box on the '05 isn't that hard or time consuming. All you need to do it remove 3 screws from the underside of the upper glove box. Access these screws by opening the glove box. Once the screws are removed, pop open the upper glove box door and hold it on either end, pull straight out. It's held in place by clips if I recall correctly.

Well, that would be awesome. So the instructions that are on god_of_cpu's site must be for pre '05 models? I guess when I'm actually installing something everything else would have to come off too, but I'll check this out as it will help with my brainstorming.

All instructions on the digitalwheelz site currenlty refer to 04 and earlier models. My initial impression of the 05 is that the parts don't tie into each other nearly as much on the eariler models so you might be able to remove just an individual part without removing all the parts around it.

Stash the pc under your seat. If the case is small enough, it can definately be done. Mine is currently bolted down and under my drivers seat. You still will need to run wires towards the trunk for gps and/or wifi. Check my sig or this link for photos from my install. http://www.chupkin.com/album83 Hope it helps you out or gives you some ideas.

gizsf, nice job on the pc under the seat. Can you provide W*H*L of your case, mainly H? How tall of a case can fit under the seat? Also can you provide specs your your PC?

thanks
