I did the DDIN on a 05 G35X. Pretty easy, my only issue was that I did not install something that filled the entire space (like a double din touchscreen). I went with a Kenwood and a pocket.
The stock bracket works; however, the location of the bracket holes left a gap when the pocket was installed. There was also a slight space on the top of the pocket and just below the Kenwood.
The JDM bracket holes are farther forward, and eliminated the pocket gap. I had to make a piece of plastic trim to cover the space between the pocket and the Kenwood.
I highly recommend the service manual. If you follow those instructions, it should be a snap to take everything apart. I ordered all the parts for J's Garage, nice guy, easy to work with.

I did a Double Din Pioneer AVIC D1 in my 05 G35 Coupe. I installed the Ipod controller and the steering wheel control interface. I even threw in the aftermarket premium rearview mirror with homelink. I did a full writeup with pics. Do a search.
You can get the DD kit from Yosi at J's Garage. It costs about $400. You don't need a bracket. You need the new front panel, and a new AC controller. Tell Yosi what car you have, and he will get you the right stuff. It comes from Japan, took around a week.
Anyway, my steering wheel controls can control my Ipod (which sits in the glove).
Here are a couple fun pics for you...
