Question DD Conversion vs. In-Dash (Digital Wheelz) Conversion

I am trying to decide which route to take with my 2004 G35 Coupe...

I have checked out both the DD Conversion Kit final product and also the Digital Wheelz In-Dash Kit and am trying to weigh out the pro's and cons of each.

Does anyone have any suggestions/recommendations as to which they perfer and why? Pros/Cons? Costs? ETC...

For those who have done either to their G's, post some pics to show off your accomplishments!!!

Thanks in advance for the posts...JD

i assume you just want a single din head unit.

Double Din
+looks good
+head unit easily accessible
+linking HU to steering wheel controls not difficult
+you can go double din later and know what you're doing
+you only have one head unit; why have two?
-takes a lot longer to do the conversion or get behind the oem h/u than get behind the upper glove box
-may even be challenging if you dont have soldering experience - you must solder to keep dual a/c functionality
-is more expensive
-may have to get the parts from japan
-may not look that great depending on the head unit you get and how good you are at installing it

DW conversion
+costs less
+may take less time to do
+stereo itself easier to install
+cant see the head unit when the upper glove box is closed
-will involve a little custom work to get the stereo installed in the DW space
-if you need to get any cables behind the oem head unit, this route will take significantly longer than just doing the DD conversion alone
-having two head units and the possible wiring mess (not sure how you'd wire it)

If you want to keep the stock audio system do DW
If you want to get an aftermarket audio system do DD

Heres my DW (before reassembly of all the stuff obviously)

I do plan on getting an aftermarket sound system eventually (subs, amps, etc.). Is it not possible to do this effectively if I go the DW route?

the DW kit is nice but, you have to be careful of the ribbon in the back connected to the screen.

I just purchased the DD kit to install a single din HU but I have 2 gripes about it. First, My cubby hole cover is brown and not silver which will not match the DD finisher color. The color also does not match with the brown lower section where my shifter is located. Secondly, I would need to purchase a lower pocket to fill the gap and I dont know where to find it. (i dont think its on grubbs anymore). Third, the HU would be in plain sight for theives.

But if someone can answer my questions, I would probably go with the DW bracket:
First, would the nissan wiring harness reach to the glove compartment area from the center console so I may hookup my aftermarket HU?
Next, Would the antenna adapter reach to the glove compartment area?

Last, Is there a way to wire so both factor and after market HU work?

Thanks.

I'm a huge fan of the DDIN over the DW.

Senupi: once you install the double din bracket you should be able to use any single din pocket or plate to fill in the unused din space. personally I am going with a double din in dash lcd (eclipse avn 5435).

As for the double din finisher people usually paint it if they want it to match dash. Mine is silver (as i believe all are) and doesen't match my greyish/brown console, but I am thinking about painting it to match body color when I paint my grey lowers. otherwise I might leave as is, or paint it to match the rest of the console.

Ok, I guess my other question is, how much does it usually cost to paint the other parts? Do you do it professionally or just rattle can it? Thanks.

Any store that carries and installs car stereo equipment will have a pocket for your dash. ie: BestBuy, Circuit City. It's about $16 at BB. If you get a HU with a removable face you wont have to wory about theives or you can just tint your windows.
-GP-

Here's mine, the whole below the HU is filled with a piece of ABS plastic and when i install my amp im going to put the bass boost and digital voltmeter in there.

^ Ya but accessing the temp controls is a pain in the ****....if you go DD, go with the AVN, not a single din in dash...
