Convert Navigation to show DVD's & Connect to Internet/TV via Satellite/GPS Tracking

This is my first post some I'm hoping for some insightful information.

I just purchased a preowned 2004 G35 with Navigation. I would like to:
1a) Play DVD's on the existing player (if possible but open to recommendations). Would you recommend a module or a whole new player and which?
1b) Connect to the internet using the navigation keys and view from existing screen. Perhaps hook up to a wireless keyboard.
1c) Ordered the 6.4 DVD from Zenrin for Navigation. Would that work in whatever you're recommending?
2) Watch Satellite TV (not just local channels). How can I achieve this?
3) Track the vehicle where ever it's located on the web. Is there already a embedded GPS device that I can use or would I have to have one installed?

I appreciate any help you can provide. Thanks in advance!

The existing "player" is not a DVD player. Think of it as a proprietary DVD-ROM capable of ONLY reading navigation DVDs. No, you cannot mod the nav DVD-ROM to play video DVDs.

There are units that let you add an Auxillary Video Input to your screen, however. You would then just need a DVD player hidden someplace that is hooked to this input and you could have DVDs on your stock nav screen. There are several of these units that add the aux. input to your screen. Do a search, they are all over this forum.

Can't b e done. You would have to have a computer hooked up via a TV-OUT port on it (RCA or svideo) that is connected to the same aux. input type unit as I mentioned above. You would not have touchscreen capabilities with your stock screen. You would have to use a wireless keyboard to control what you see on the screen.

They have DirecTV units, but they are huge. You would have to place an antenna the size of a baseball home base plate on the top of your car. Or try and stream over high speed internet (using something like a SlingBox) if you have that available to you in your area.

You would have to install an aftermarket one. The GPS unit in the car can not be interfaced to with outside devices. Look into units by Directed Audio / Directed Video. They have great security products.

Beyond all that, you are really talking about wanting a car PC in your car... but building/installing one would be quite a large project, and it would (realistically) require you to ditch your stock NAV screen and stock NAV DVD-ROM.

Where are you located?

Hmmm seperate dvd device altogether?! Essentially, your saying to play both the Nav Disc and DVD's on the stock screen I need a whole new unit? Do these devices require a seperate DVD player as well?

What unit would you recommend based on what you've read on this forum? and will it play the Zenrin 6.4 Disc?

So, I can achieve having a computer hook-up but with a wireless keyboard or remote but no control using the Any recommendations?

You need two, completely separate units.

To use the NAV discs you need to use the factory/stock DVD-ROM drive (the one located in your upper glovebox). This drive is specifically made to ONLY read NAV DVD discs, nothing more, nothing less.

To play Video DVDs you need to have a DVD player.

Yes. All that unit does is adds a video INPUT to your stock nav screen. In essence, all it does is provides a means for another video source (in our case we are talking about a DVD player being the video source) to get it's video onto the stock NAV screen. Imagine a TV with only 1 video input, and it was a 100% prorietary input. No standard coax cable TV hook up, no little yellow RCA input jacks, nothing. There would be no way of hooking up a DVD player. That is your stock NAV screen. Now imagine a special box you could plug into that proprietary connector in the TV that would still allow the proprietary connector to connect to the TV, but also gave you a little yellow RCA input jack. This is what the TV2NAV boxes (like the one linked above) do.

What unit would you recommend based on what you've read on this forum? and will it play the Zenrin 6.4 Disc?
Read above. No video DVD player will read NAV DVDs. Likewise, no NAV DVD-ROM drives will read video discs. Apples and oranges. I do not know if the stock nav DVD-ROM drive will read a "Zenrin 6.4 Disc" as I do not have the stock nav system, so I don't know which discs are and are not compatible with it.

I assume you mean "no touchscreen controls" when you say "using the any recommendations". That is correct. The touchscreen aspect of the stock NAV screen ONLY works when using the stock DVD-ROM for navigation. If you are using a non-stock video source (IE: a DVD player, a computer, etc) via a TV-to-NAV box (like the one linked above) you lose all touchscreen capabilities.
