DigitalWheelz Stealth Carputer Case

The DigitalWheelz stealth carputer case was just sent off to manufacturing. It will fit inside the empty space within the G35 spare tire. It should be very simple to install and remove without tools and will be invisible when not in use, covered by the trunk floor.

The entire case will be powered coated with a matte black finish.

It was designed around the standard 17" spare tire. It will NOT work with fullsize spares.

I am not sure about compatibility with spare tires for G35s equipped with 18" or larger wheels. If anyone knows if there are differences in the steel rims for the spares for different size wheels please reply to this thread. If there are differences, an 18" version will probably be made.

The final cost and options have not been determined. The case alone should be < $100. A complete system will probably be released around this case including everything needed to install a full carputer system including all hardware, software, and wiring. There won't be any more specific information on the bundle until its released.

The case should be available for purchase in January 2006.

Sweet case mounts but one issue for the one that goes in the spare tire. Once it's under the floor board, will there be any air circulation? I know there's vents in the trunk but there won't be a way to get that air into the spare tire unless you drill holes in the floor board. I'm sure you have a plan for that but it's just a thought.

Sounds like he does not recommend running the PC with the trunk floor over it?

There is about an inch or so between the surface of the tire and the floor as well as a fan in the case that will circulate air from the processor. The case is more or less an open design using the whole bottom area of the trunk. I don't think theres any good mounting place in the car that will have real good air circulation, but I haven't found mounting in the spare tire to be any worse then anyplace else in the trunk and in any case I think it should be quite adequate for a VIA ITX or Pentium M.

Do you have a notification list going for the release of the 05 lcd screen housing and now for this carputer housing? Because I definitely want to be in the "know" when these items hit the "market!" Very excited about these two products.

It may be a good and inexpensive idea to put a little bit of rubber matting in points where it is contacting with the vehicle or wheel to cut down on vibrations too.

This is already planned. The edges of the bottom piece will be covered in rubber tubing.
