Possible to mod 05 with 06 Bluetooth?

Just wondering what would be involved in getting the factory Bluetooth stuff into an '05?

Me too!
Not sure how the blue tooth works in the 06, if it's built into the radio, or if it's separate and the radio works with it.

Thanks in advace!

Dealer already quoted someone on this forum $800-$900 to do it.

Dealers charge about $50,000 / hour for labor Or so it seems... I'm curious what parts are needed to be installed / changed.

Was this to install the 06 stock bluetooth parts in an 05 or simply install an aftermarket bluetooth hands free kit?

It doesn't seem that bad, first some parts:

- headliner from 06 w/mic provision;
- steering wheel controls;
- cabling;

I can't imagine much more being involved. Probably a bigger problem would be to know whether or not the factory HU is identical from 05 to 06 - I've got my doubts, for some reason. I'm willing to bet that, if the 05 is somehow capable of bluetooth, that the firmware for the bluetooth is a very early (read: buggy) version.

I'd sure like to hear of someone willing to try it, though.

That's the way I read the title of the post.

I don't think this is possible. The bluetooth is tied into the stereo system so when you switch to phone mode, it says "Telephone" on the head unit. I would think you need an update to the headunit to support this. plus there's a micropohone that's installed near the sunroof with an LED to indicate whether the system is connected to your phone or not.

about the buggyness, i have to say that it's the best bluetooth hands-free profile implementation i've seen. it's way better than any headset i've used in terms of connecting to the phone, dealing with incoming calls, etc. infiniti did it really well.

I think we assumed it'd require some extra parts and probably swapping the radio.

Yep - new headliner, wiring, microphone, etc... and probably new updated head unit. Not cheap.

And not worth it. Missing numerous features that a $400 aftermarket (installed) unit will do for you.

I would even bet against needing a new HU. I think that the 05 would work - Infiniti probably put off releasing Bluetooth in 05 because of the need to have something new in the final model year of the current design. Old trick that every automaker employs. The typical BMW/Infiniti/Audi/Lexus owner is one that has a couple of bucks and generally likes to have the latest toy, IMO.

Now, keep in mind that I have no reason to think that other than it would be too costly for Clarion to design the same HU twice, even if it's just to add a minor feature such as this. Also, seeing how 'half-a$$ed' the implementation is (much like the display for XM, it's far from finished..), I'd be willing to bet the 05/06 HU's are the same.

Only way for anyone to find out is to try it (much like I did when installing the XM in my 05), mind you a good starting point would be to see if the part numbers match.

I also agree that it really wouldn't be worth it since there are other solutions available - however, if I found a totalled 06 G w/bluetooth, you can be sure I'd be asking the owner of the wrecking yard "how much..."
