Question for anyone with a Passport 8500 radar

Just wondering if anyone experiences this weird reaction from the Passport. Does anybody's radar act crazy when they use the windshield wipers or adjust the mirrors? For some strange reason, when I use these 2 functions in the car, my radar goes off and displays LASER. There is apparently signals crossing and it just sets off the radar until I stop using the buttons.

Nope... not with my X50 mounted up high by the visor...

But when I turn on the A/C, my compass thinks I change directions... I guess the motor has enough electrical field to fool the sensor.

I have the 8500 and have not experienced this? Do you have yours hardwired? If so, maybe that's part of the problem.

I got a 7500s and mine goes off (LASER) whenever my BlackBerry communicates with the network, which is always...I can't use the detector at all. I emailed Escort and they want me to call and send the unit in for 'modifications' see email...and before anyone tells me how much of a piece of crap this detector is, I know, but I got it for $19 bucks, and I don't 'push my luck' too much cause I have about a year to go before I can get another ticket dismissed by attending TSS.

It is good to hear from you! As you know, it is unusual to get false laser warnings. Some cars and other electronics put out more RF interference than others and this may cause the laser to false when certain devices are used. Although rare, I have heard using the horn, or windshield wipers causing this affect. If this started recently, have you added anything to the vehicle you are using your detector in? Does it do the same thing in other cars/trucks? New cell phones and some major airports can also cause false laser alerts.
Please call our Customer Service Department and they will give you a repair authorization number and instructions on how to return to us. We will be able to make modifications to your detector that will help.
Thanks for your interest in Escort!

Hello,

I recently (10/20/2005) purchased a 7500s from Best Buy, serial # xxxxxxxxx and I am very frustrated with its constant LASER alarms that go off with every message, and sometimes in between, that my BlackBerry receives or sends. My radar detector is completely useless because of this and 99% of the time it is off. As you know when the LASER alarm is activated it overrides the other alarms so that I have ZERO faith in this detector, because I never know when the LASER alarm will be tripped. Please remedy my issue, my ears are ringing and I expect more out of Escort than the product I took home.

Thank You Very Much,

Isaac

P.S. After doing some research online, and seeing others with this same issue, they all report vastly reduced sensitivity. I don't think that this is a fair 'repair' I bought Escort for the class leading technology and performance and I don't want a 'handicapped' detector.

This is why you should all have bought a V1.

Ok good. At least now I know I'm not the only one here. It does scare the $hit out of me when I'm driving, and my reaction is to press on the brakes, but then it's a false alarm.

G35_TX....you're right, I should have gone with the V1. Just got this cuz I got a pretty good discount from a buddy that is a manager of a car audio place here. It still has saved my a$$ plenty of times though.

You should just turn off your laser detection anyhow. It's not like it's going to save your *** or anything. Laser detection = Joke

The only real defense you can have against laser is using a product like the Blinder Extreme...

The blue led display is more expensive to manufacture.... that's the only reason.
