avic d1 and line drivers?

avic d1 and line drivers?
is it absolutely necessary to get a line driver for an avic d1?

No, but it gives a HUGE performance boost.

I just had a D1 installed without a line driver. I do howerver have an alpine sound processor. Im not really sure what the voltage out of that unit is. The sound is much better than I expected.
