nonbose = 4 ohm speakers? What to get?

Yeah, I dont want to tear into my door until I am ready to change speakers, but I may have to if no one else here knows the answer for sure.
This is what I'm thinking: Maybe the HU's of the non bose and bose are the same, but the Bose system runs the signal through another external amp in the back, hence the ability to power 2 ohm speakers. However, I hear there is no external amp for the non bose system, so maybe the HU has some sort of internal amp only capable of powering the 4 ohm speakers, hence the reason why they are 4 ohm ones in the non bose systems. Anyone have thoughts on this?
