Re: Making the Stock NAV play DVD Movies.

The avelectronic box has a backup camera option. The camer is an extra 75 I think and plugs right into the box. I never thought about it but realized with how high our trunk is you can't see a whole lot when backing up. I put my box in and I'm very happy with it. I can watch the news on the way to and from work (or any other regular tv including MTV2) while my nav is running.

Re: Making the Stock NAV play DVD Movies.

Can one of you guys with the backup camera post some pics of what you see on the screen? I'm just curious how benefitial this option is....how "wide angle" and clear it is.

I imagine it could also serve as a "backup rearview mirror" in that it would give the driver a wider view of approaching traffic, like for merging on a highway for example.

This option would be my personal primary reason for getting the AV Electronics box.

Re: Making the Stock NAV play DVD Movies.

The most difficult part is getting to the nav wiring. The instructions for that come with the tuner. There's a link to a geocities website that has step by step instructions. Before you start make sure you get the adaptors for the fm modulator. Nissan antennas are different than others so you need 2 different adaptors. Go to Best Buy/Circuit City or any other car audio shop and they should have them.

Re: Making the Stock NAV play DVD Movies.

thanks... i actually left my unit and the instructions with the shop. They know their stuff, but don't use computers much. Does anybody have the link handy to that Geocities site? Would you have the P/N's for the Nissan adaptors - or "circuit city employee understandable description"?

Also...what LCDs did you mount in your headrests? How did you get around the fact that the posts for the headrests are so close together and shallow.

Cheers, Ted

Sorry I couldn't post this earlier, I was at work and didn't have it.

For the antenna, just explain that you have an Infiniti/Nissan and are hooking up an FM modulator and need the adaptors. There are 2, my Best Buy receipt says Nissan Antenna to Radio 40-NI20 and Nissan Diversity Ant Adaptor 40-NI10. Both were $10.99.

My lcd's are Alpine 5.8s and they're pretty shallow so the mounting bracket is zip-tied to the headrest posts. I have pics from start to finish but I'm waiting for some finishing touches to my PS2 box.

It looks like you can mount it to the licens plate bolts. I'm just wondering if a cop would give you a problem because it's blocking the lights for the plate.

Re: Making the Stock NAV play DVD Movies.

Funny thing's been happening in the mornings.
When I start the car the Nav, Radio, Air, and Dash Lights go out but the car still runs. I re-start the car and everything's fine. The dealer checked out the mother board and said everything's normal. Have u had any problems? Also, what are you using to power up the DVD Player? I have a power converter that's next to the passenger seat...really tacky looking. I was considering getting a second battery just to run the tube and ps2...Any ideas?

Re: Making the Stock NAV play DVD Movies.

would your alternator handle the extra load of another battery? What about a capacitor that I have seen on the Audio sites (what do they use these for?)

Re: Making the Stock NAV play DVD Movies.

I have a power invertor hardwired that sits under the passenger seat. With everything I have installed the only thing visible is the box for my ps2 and it's color matched to the interior so it's hardly noticeable.

Re: Making the Stock NAV play DVD Movies.

I wired my car so I can run my PS2, the avelectronic box, and my headrest screens w/out my key. They wired directly to the battery and I have switches for all of them. One advantage is I can leave my PS2 on pause while stopping my car (rest area, store, gas, etc). I also have a voltmeter on the distribution block so I know if I'm getting low.

Re: Making the Stock NAV play DVD Movies.

Do you have the pics so that I can run the PS2 without the key and where I can get the switches and how much?
PM me if you have the info and install instructions.
I appreciate it man. I hate turning the car on when the PS2 is running and i can't watch a full length movie without re-starting the car before the battery dies.

Thanks dude!
