Parrot Bluetooth Install Help??
Parrot Bluetooth Install Help??
I'm trying to figure out how to wire this Parrot CK3100 kit. I realize it is made for Euro cars with ISO connectors. I also am aware there are probably conversion kits that are more plug/play. But I'm trying to wire it into a Kenwood aftermarket system (KW HU with external amp and 6.5 comps )and I'll probably use an external speaker rather than try to wire into the aftermarket speakers. Parrot makes an external speaker, but I can't find any pictures of what it looks like or how it is wired in. I see no place on the Parrot "brain" for this to plug into. I can only assume it wires into the ISO harnesses. But again, I can't find a confirmation on this.
Let me preface this by saying this is what I have deducted by looking at the wires/plugs included and trying to read the installation manual. The manual is an absolute joke. I"m guessing this is such an easy install in Europe that the manual does not need to be that detailed.
The kit comes with two basic plugs. One is for power and the other is for sound. In the picture, I'm assuming the harness on the left is the power one. I was planning on cutting off the plugs AFTER the fuses and just wire in the constant, switched and ground wires. I'm assuming the wire on the right is for sound. The separate yellow wire with the bullet tip is the mute wire. i was just going to wire that into the mute wire from the headunit. Now I know the wires from the male part of the ISO connector on the right has +/- speaker wires. I guess I can wire those to an external speaker of my choice. I have an old stock speaker I can use for now (I first want to see if this works and I like it). But I'd like to know how the speaker from Parrot ties in here and if I need to cut wires for it. Can anyone help?
Also, what are the "line in" and "line out" wires for (the green and brown wire coming out of the harness on the right)? I'm assuming they are line level outputs vs. speaker level outputs? But how are they utilized? Is there an easier way to wire this into my system?
PLEASE correct me if I am wrong in my assumptions. I am by no means an expert, but I don't think this should be that hard. I'm just not used to not being able to find out information about such a popular product. The place where I bought it was clueless. I've already searched this forum and found some information, but not for my particular setup.

its really easy if you look in the manual it shows the wires for each speaker. it doesnt tell you +/- but just make one side of the harness + and the other - and your good. then just do the +12, switched, and ground. i hope your understanding that im telling you to cut the harness off. one side of the speaker wires are inputs from the radio and the other out to the radio. and if you are usind a aftermarket amp you need to go after it or just use a external speaker. i would say go to the factory speakers or else you will loose the effect and mute option

I am going to use an external speaker; however, I should still be able to use the mute feature since my headunit (Kenwood) has a mute wire. Not positive this will work, but certainly sounds like it should.
I bought the ck3100 this week. the external spkr parrot sells plugs into the port that the muting cable plugs into. So you'd remove that big-*** muting cable and all its wiring harnesses and just plug the parrot speaker into that port on the control box. I was told this by parrot today cos i called to ask several questions about other things. im not using a parrot speaker. i picked up a spkr from radio shack that sounds ok and wired it to one of the spkr pairs coming off the mute cable.
I must say though that i thought i knew what i was doing with my installation until my battery died and i had to cut the 12v constant source that i wired to the parrot to jump the car. Im still wondering what i did wrong. Must be a short somewhere
If anyone out there could set me straight i'd greatly appreciate it.

a short would blow a fuse, so i dont think thats it. and a parrot doesnt drawl enough power to kill your battery over night. its a pretty easy install if youve ever had to hardwire a radio. if your still confused, do what most people should do in the first place and hire a pro.
At one point a fuse blew in the fuse panel near the wiring harness where I tapped into for 12v constant. Parrot needs this. I replaced the fuse and things seemed ok for a bit but the battery was draining throughout the night while I was running the other wires. I agree it shldnt be a tough install and I'm gonna start from scratch I think tonight. Could I have a bad grnd causing this? Keep in mind I disconnected only the one 12v wires to jump the car and it was fine this morning starting up. If I can't figure this out I definitely will take your advice and bring it to a pro
Thx.

Thx.
