Even if the K40 or the Passport could match it in performance it can't match the V1 for using it as a TOOL to beat the cops.

Until you get to use the arrows and counter along with the distinct audible alerts and radar type indicator, and really get used to living with it, you won't fully understand how much it TROUNCES every other. Period.

If you own a G, you should be able to afford $400. If you can't, and need an ultra-cheap one, then go get one. But if you can afford anything over $150, then you better try like your life depends on it, to get a V1. You will not be sorry.

 

I know that some models of the previous generations of K40s were nothing but relabelled BEL detectors selling for hundreds more. I guess it covers their 'Ticket Protection' program.

I ripped one apart once, and its guts were identical to one of the BELs in a side by side comparison, down to the circuit board and chip numbers! It wasn't even BEL's top detector at the time! Not very confidence inspiring. Not sure what they are using recently however.

Here is a better use for the ashtray! I hardwired my V1 today and installed the remote display in the ashtray. Here are some pics:

It was very easy. Mounted the V1 with the suction cups to the right of the rear view mirror. Ran the power wire (phone cable) under the haeadliner, down the pillar. Then removed the glove box and the panel where the passenger side power outlet is. Used the hard wire V1 tap to tap into the power outlet (red wire) I then removed the gear shift **** and pulled up the rear of the console and pulled it loose. I then just drilled a hole in the ashtray and ran the phone cable through it. Connected the cord to the accesory side of the hardwire unit and put a plug on the other end. Put everything back together and secured the display in the ashtray with various amounts of velcro and double stick tape. I then used the "soft part" of the velcro to fill in the side and make it look neater. Spent $25 on phone cable, crimping tool and velcro and about 2 hours of time. A good way to spend a Saturday morning!!!

 

i like the actualy integration into the ash tray the best..as well as on some other cars when people have it installed into the rear mirror..however i do not know how it would affect the garage controls
any ideas?
