AVN5435 installed.... works except for a few things... Help please

I just got my avn5435 installed that i purchased from crutchfield... now here's the thing... they were finishing up install when i got there and...

1) He could not get a "speed pulse" He drove it around the block a couple of times and it is just in calibration mode or something and says 0mph i believe. He said he's installed a lot of these systems and had a problem before with the speed pulse and had to go back and fix it, but he said he had never encountered a time when he had installed one and it got a signal like mine... just not in real time and was a little behind. Any ideas?

2) The buttons around the edge dont light up. He told me to bring it by tomorrow so he can look at it and fix it, and he seemed pretty confident i guess....

3) I cant get a lot of the radio stations on FM and cant get ANY on AM radio.

4) The most bothersome by the way... When i type in city's trying to find my home town in Spring, Texas... its not in there and there are no city's within 20 miles of me... and all the city's in the "List" are up in New England... WTF.. I can push on the screen where i want to go and select it just fine. I just got directed to my house by it and it sent me to my street in SPRING texas... so why isnt it on the list?

If you could help out... my installer and I would greatly appreciate it... I told him that i would probably get an answer pretty quick with at least some ideas and that you guys know what youre talking about (so dont let me down).

I'm guessing i will probably find more problems since ive only been playing with it for like 15 minutes.... but whatever i guess... I do a lot of computer work and understand that things dont always work out the first time and that sometimes troubleshooting is involved

He needs to call Eclipse tech. The 5435 does need a speed pulse wire, definitely. We find that wire using an oscilloscope. The AVNs have their own tech support line with a dead-sexy-sounding Japanese woman giving out great info.

He should be - it means he forgot to hook up the illumination wire or hooked it up wrong.

That would be where he forgot to connect the antenna or he did not have the Nissan adapter and he will install one when he fixes the illumination wire.

The map disc that 5435s come with is like 04 info. There is a new one coming out and it's in the price list but not shipping till later this year. This is not uncommon, my wife's car was purchased in 03 and had an 02 nav disc in it. My guess is that the newest map disc will correct all that. But you'll have to pay for it, probably, because the35 will never actually ship with the new disc.

he said it was most likely a problem he'd have to call their tech service to fix with the speed pulse.... I KNOW that my city/streets have to be on there... when i push on a place on my street, it tells me the house number on that street that i am pressing on.... it has all the streets... wtf... why would it say "north america" on the disk and only have like 600 citys... all of which are up in NE

if u were in socal i could fix ALL of your problems in 30 minutes...

1) the speed pulse is the green/ white wire on a 2x10 harness behind the headunit...

2) the buttons dont light up cause an orange wire isnt connected...

3)

4) with the navi dvd in, go to setup and pick your part of the US that youre in... Socal is US2... i believe its the button 2 below "NAVI"

thanks for all the answers.... i felt bad for the guy installing it cause he knew i was going to get on this board (since i told him) and I was going to find out what was wrong... and I was going to have to tell him what to do since he had no idea.... and he knew that people on forums were gonna get on here and say "your installer is an idiot" and stuff.. I really think what happened was this... and i know its still the fault of the installer or whatever, but i understand it.. they have so many cars coming in, and i understand they dont want to turn anyone away because it must be impossible competing with car toys and big places like that... but he didnt have time for my car today and just said he would do it... they did the installl very quickly and just saw that it wass turning on and stuff and put the dash back together so id have my car back tonight and no one would have to work a few hours late... as long as he fixes everything and it all works well, i wont have any problem with the fact that it took two attempts at taking apart the dash. the only thing i dont get is how the g35 could be that much different than another car... i mean everytime that im in that shop they are installing an avn5435 in someone's car.... i seriously think that installing eclipse screens is about 50% of their business

You need to go into Setup, I think, and change the region to where you live.

OK, well I've been doing this for 20 years, and I say that anyone who slams aa HU into a G35 is a hack, I say that anyone who "can't turn away business" is a chicken - hit who is desperate, and I say that once you take money for doing a job, you had damn well do it like you're a pro.

There is no right way to do something stupid. Slamming a car when you don't have time is stupid. It is a risk that you shouldn't have to take, and then things WILL go wrong (as they did).

The only way your poor installer can make it against Car Toys (where ARE you?) is by being more competent and professional than they are... and it sounds like he's not too good on that score. I compete against Car Toys every day - they help us look good.
