I've been very happy with my Pioneer Avic D1. So much so that if I can't install a DD unit in the next generation G35 Coupe, I'll just stick with my 05. That said, wait for the Z1. When it comes out I will be installing my current D1 in my RX7 and upgrading the G to the Z1.

quick question, do u really want to spend over $2000 on a sweet system install on a leased vehicle? unless u know for sure u plan on keeping the vehicle after the lease is up, I don't see the point in spending the extra money.

That's a reasonable question. I am not planning on buying this g but I do plan on uninstalling the unit before I return the car. I'll keep the bose radio, original temp controllers, and the other original parts around so it shouldn't be hard.

The only thing that I'll lose is the cost of installation and depreciation of the navi.

So what are the thoughts on the 5435 v. the D1? Also, is the 5495 worth the extra ~$500?

Its not an extra 500 a cubby install vs. say a D1 install because your saving on the nolonger needed DD conversion kit...so basically the custom work can be subtracted from the DD conversion kit (assuming that if you go the DD route you install the DD yourself, or it may actually cost more than a custom job).
The main benefit is the stock look... no added attention to the (already attention grabbing) car...

I meant the extra $500 between the 5495 and the 5435.

If you don't want Sirius, go for the 5495. Might as well wait, in the fall Eclipse is probably bringing over the 7905 from Japan. Real SWEET!

Which model is the 7905? If you look on Eclipse's website they have the 6600 out soon. To me it seems like an updated 5435 with dual DVD players, sirius and ipod ready.

So are the harddrive-based navi units a lot better than the DVD units? I know you can rip music in real time and the navi is a bit faster, but is that alone worth a few hundred bucks? I mean, is it like the difference between dial-up and cable or between USB 2 and firewire?

Okay, so for me the 5495 is out because it lacks Sirius and the 5435 is out because i'd rather get the 6600. I don't want the pioneers because I'd prefer a dd. I don't know much about the Kenwood units.

So I'm left with the 6600, the z1 (is this the same as the v1? http://www.12volt.com/wordpress/?m=20060104), and the D2. Any ideas on the pricing of the 6600? It looks like the 6600 were to be released last month. The Z1 isn't out yet either.

Any recommendations between the 6600, the z1, and the D2?
