Improving the stock Bose sound

Any suggestions? I like the look of a stock dash, but the crushed, muffled sound of the stock Bose on my 05 is driving me crazy. I unstalled some really nice from speakers yesterday that seem to separate the high end a little better, but I'm looking for a bigger improvement...an amp? What do you guys think?

remember to keep the settings at +4 bass and treble. keeping it at +5 will cause it to reset back to "zero" when the car is turned off. when the car is restarted, the indicator will still say +5 but you will see the sound improves when it's turned down to +4 and then back to +5. i don't know why, but it's a quirk that came with '05 coupe bose systems. people have told me to keep it at +4 and the setting holds reguardless if the car is shut off or not. fun stuff.
