Drivers Side speaker not working
Drivers Side speaker not working
I thought I was loosing my left side hearing, but I guess not. My front lower drivers side speaker is barely putting out any sound. When the volume is way up, you can hear it like its on level 4. When you hit a bump, I get some very loud static. I just installed an ipod adapter in the back of the head unit, but I honestly dont know if it was working before that, because I would mainly listen to talk radio.
1. Do you think the problem is a bad connection at the speaker. If so how hard is it to take the door panel out to reconnect the speaker.
2. Do you think the speaker is junk and needs to be replaced under warrentee.
3. Do you think it is the connection at the back of the head unit.
Thanks for the advise.

This happened to me before......is it only when you are playing a CD or is it "off" all the time? Does it come back then go off again? My drivers side speaker was being real weird for a while - then i just threw some JL audio speakers in there!
covered under warranty

It doesnt work under any format, unless you have it turned up to 27+, then you can barely hear it. I know its under warrentee, but if its just an easy wire, I can do that myself and save 2 hours drive time, gas, mileage and hours of waiting.
What do you guys think, wire, speaker or connection in back of stereo. I dont think it is the connection, If it was I would think that all the speakers would have problems since they are all in one plug.

It is a bad connection on a circuit board in the HU; to completely correct the problem, they need to replace the HU. There was a TSB for this. It was happening in alot of Nissan cars. Also happened to my buddies Maxima. He had the HU replaced, and it never happened again.

Oh no. Does that mean I should disconnect my Ipod connector from the back of the HU before I take it in? Do you a linky to the TSB? Thanks
If it was my head unit, wouldnt all the speakers not work?? For those of you who have had your HU replaced, what went wrong. I guess Im just trying to see if I have to pull my ipod install and take it to the dealer. If we think its just a single speaker, Ill leave the ipod in when I take it to the dealer. Thanks

My Driver's side cuts out once in a while too. I agree with the above as well and think it is a bad connection on a circuit board in the HU becuase if I whack the dash the speaker comes back on.

You guys are right, tonight on the way home the speaker was fine, if I would hit a big bump, I would hear a loud staticy sound. How do you get them to replace it if it is fine when you take it in, since it is a intermitten problem?
I tried searching for the TSB, but couldn't find it. Sorry. I would disconnect the iPod before taking it in, otherwise they will point the finger. The reason why it's not all the speakers is because it was part of a circuit for the left channel only that was faulty.
once i stepped into my dealer and told them about my driver side speaker, they knew exactly what i was talking about. They didnt even go test my headunit and ordered me a new one. It is a very common problem and unless they feel like being difficult with you, you shouldn't have any problems. After all, they are replacing your headunit with a refurbished one anyways.. so its not like theyre losing money. In my opinion, it's just going to go in circles because the refurbished one will evidentaly screw up like all the other ones.
