Re: Installing a PDA GPS receiver

Rambo...

Could you see how big the san francisco bay area is? I'm heavily looking into this as an option unless I decide to get real zealous and build a custom computer into my car :P...

Re: Installing a PDA GPS receiver

As far as the size of the data for the San Fransisco area I am sure that the data for the entire state of California will easily fit on a 256MB SD card with room to spare for surrounding states, games, MP3s, video clips, and photos. I put the complete map data for the entire southeastern US (from Lousiana to Florida up to Tennessee) plus a couple of other states and still have room for a bunch of MP3 files on my 256MB SD card. I bought the card for about $40 on sale after rebates at Staples a few weeks ago. 512MB cards are also available.

Driving around this evening I noticed that the iQue's display automatically switched to "night-mode" (white print on black background) when the sun began to set. A pretty neat feature for the relatively inexpensive iQue since my G35c OEM Navi does not do this.

Re: Installing a PDA GPS receiver

eykim..... The entire bay area from the northern san fran down south to santa cruz is under 14 megs. Basically, memory will not be an issue for anyone, unless you want the entire continent in memory...at that point you need to get a DVD based nav

Re: Installing a PDA GPS receiver

hey motegi...your thing is on Auto, i turned mine to Daytime map colors only (its in the QueMap preferences- press menu button to access it)
i dont like the nighttime colors of most GPS systems, i want the thing to be as bright as possible at night, mainly to show it off while driving

Re: Installing a PDA GPS receiver

My OEM Navi switches to night colors as soon as the lights come on (on Auto, or manually with the switch). Does yours not do this?

Re: Installing a PDA GPS receiver

My OEM G35 navi does switch to a dimmer screen for nightime but it is still quite intrusive with its light colored background. Some OEM navi systems will switch to a "reversed" color scheme for nightime use where the background is black with white/yellow roads and text.

I personally find the automatic night mode feature on the iQue to be a plus. In the cars in which it is used it is placed reasonably high in the field of vision (similar position to the OEM G35 navi). On darker street and unlit highways the full-on brightness of the daytime mode would be too distracting in the field of view.

Um... the G35 night Navi isn't obtrustive at all.. it's black ground and dark, dark blue sky with white and yellow roads. I'm not sure what you're talking about...

here are some pics... (I'll upload in two mins)

Re: Installing a PDA GPS receiver

Hmmm... that's interesting. Mine doesn't do that. Thanks, I'll have my dealer take a look at it.

Re: Installing a PDA GPS receiver

No problem man... have you tried the D/N button on the far left side of the navigational controls? That's the manual override to switch it between day/night.

Re: Installing a PDA GPS receiver

Hitting that button seems to just take the Navi screen from 100% to 75% brightness. It never goes to the black background. I figured that this was the way it was designed.

Is there a menu setting that I'm missing?

I don't think so. I'll look into it in the morning and see what I can find about this prob.

Re: Installing a PDA GPS receiver

UPDATE

Guess what everyone? I love this unit even more than ever now. It works beautifully with multitasking! Let me explain.
I downloaded the Resco Picture Viewer, put a few pics in there.

Here goes: (you can do this in any order)
1) Turn on the navigation and route to a destination.
2) Go to the main menu and click on Audio and play a music mp3 file.
3) Go to the main menu and Open up Resco Pic viewer and run the picture slideshow.

This is so awesome for me, ill have a slideshow of pics running with music in the background and then the Navigation will turn the sound down whenever it needs to tell me that there is a turn coming up and this will interrupt the picture slideshow to show you the upcoming turn graphically, after that the music AND picture slideshow will resume!!!!!!
