Re: Installing a PDA GPS receiver

Rambo,

That sounds pretty neat. I also like the iQues multitasking capability but have not yet tried it while navigating.

One question though, are the MP3s playing through the Garmin cig lighter speaker or have you patched the audio through your G35s audio system?

Late,
Motegi

Re: Installing a PDA GPS receiver

I also have this marvelous unit and love it to death. I've used it in our Sequoia quite a bit, but hadn't figured out how to mount it in the G yet. I just got the car yesterday (7 Sep). Now Rambo saved me from having to re-invent the wheel.

Re: Installing a PDA GPS receiver

ramborami,

how did you get the power to charge your PDA! Did you do it yourself? If so, can you show me how?(how long does it take)! If not, how much did it take them to install! Thanks!

Re: Installing a PDA GPS receiver

Has anyone tried Pharos' PDA GPS?

http://www.pharosgps.com/

I can get these for cheap, just wondering how they were! Thanks

Re: Installing a PDA GPS receiver

G35Lin,

I hope you don't mind if I throw in my 2 cents on the power issue.

The iQue uses a Palm Universal connector meaning that the iQue can use Palm cradles, sync cables, and car cigarette lighter charger cables.

Therefore you can use an inexpensive ($5 - $20) generic Palm universal cigarette lighter charger cable to power the iQue in the car. One that many iQue owners seem to have had a great deal of success with is the RadioShack Palm M515 charger cable ($20).

The other alternative is to get the Garmin Auto Kit for the iQue. It is comprised of a beanbag base with a multiposition arm, snap-in cradle, and a cigarette lighter plug/amplified speaker combination. From what I see in his photos RamboRami took the arm and cradle with cig plug off of the beanbag and mounted to his custom storage insert. The Garmin Auto Kit allows you to put the iQue into the cradle and all audio functions (MP3, Navi voice, etc) are routed to the amplified speaker rather than through the iQues quieter built-in speaker. This is very helpful if you like to listen to the stereo while you drive as the iQue's built in speaker gets drowned out.

I've used both the RadioShack cable and the Garmin Auto Kit in my vehicles. Just this evening I dismantled my Auto Kit and mounted only the cradle portion & power cable to an a/c vent cellphone mount for one of my cars. I test fitted it and it seems to be very stable. I'll report back after my road trip tomorrow.

Re: Installing a PDA GPS receiver

Thanks Motegi,

So i am assuming that you did this yourself then! How would i connect all the audio functions to the amplified speaker? Also where did you draw power?(from the cig lighter?) I want this to be clean. I don't want a cord hanging out from my cubby to the cig lighter!

Maybe i should get this professionally done!

Re: Installing a PDA GPS receiver

Hey if you want it to be 100% clean then i dont think a PDA is the way to go man, seriously, i dont know if its possible to hide the wires/speaker unless you cut away inside the cubby and cut the charger and wire it to some other power source... same w/ the audio, you'd have to somehow route the audio...
Too complicated for my likes heh.

Motegi.....ahh yes the multitasking, i did not try this in my G...so i did not have the auto-kit with me. I have a tape adapter that i can plug into the headphone jack on the PDA...will try that now...bbL

Re: Installing a PDA GPS receiver

Motegi... multitasking w/ tape adapter worked beautifully. Sound comes out of car's speakers!

A cool thing...i changed the routing prefs so that it does an airline style Beep before it commands me hehe

Re: Installing a PDA GPS receiver

Just wanted to let you all know about the sale going on this week at CompUSA.

According to their flyer for this week (9/14-9/20) the iQue is $549 plus free 64MB SD card plus a free $25 gift card. Also there is a promo for a free $50 gift card and a PDA starter kit with the purchase of any PDA.

Sounds like a good deal to me... especially since I got mine there 3 weeks ago with no promo...

Motegi
