help me a bit with aftermarket GPS

I am lookink at basic GPS for car and I find it really interesting. I am really bad with road direction and I plan to do a week of driving during this summer with my girlfriend.

I live in Canada and SOMETIMES drive to USA. I want it to fit in the little tray on the dash of the g35. Would be nice if it could be portable.

I am looking right now at the "quest" from "garmin", I like the feature and price is not too high. Can this be bought on ebay?

I dont want all the "bells and wistles", just a plain unit that can help me find my route.

Anyone can help?

Check radio shack. They had a sale going last week on gps systems that are portable. $299.99 with all the kits included. hope they still have what you are looking for. Good luck on your purchase and let us know what you end up getting and how it works for you.

If you want a basic yet complete gps, I suggest the Garmin GPS V. It is small, yet still gives you turn by turn directions (no voice prompts) and is small enough to go backpacking. With a few accessories (external antenna ($20 on ebay, and a suction mount (for GPS II)) you have a great system. for $200 or less. Mine came with the unit, power cord (runs on 4 AA's also), computer cord, dash mount (didn't like it), mapping software, and even a VHS tape to tell you how to use it!

Look on ebay, you may get the whole kit for less than $200.

yeah, I was looking at this model too, I think the shape could help to create a nice install in the g35. I dont want "voice command" and this units do seems to have many features. The only drawback I think of is the screen, look rather cheap in monocrome, how's the backlight? color?

By any luck, do you have pics of your setup with this unit in the car?

Just checked the canadian version site, got a good special on a "Magellan" model, a nice one.

I just can't find the units in stores...

Back light is a very light Light blue. Not real bright in the day, but works well at night. I have been thinking of ways to mount it in the navi spot, but due to the place the antenna hooks up (in the back) it could be a problem. Right now I just use a suction cup mount to the windshield.
