So I have new RCAS - Still have whine
Relocated ground several times - Still have whine
Re-did my original ground by drilling a new hole and sanding the area to insure good contacta - Still have whine
Checked behind my head unit including ALL connections - Still have whine
Turned my both Gains down - Still have whine

It is starting to become VERY annoying. What should I do?

 

Sounds like it's going to take a laborious process of elimination. If you remove each set of speakers one at a time and the noise remains, the problem lies at or before the amp. Is there an outboard D/A convertor for the head unit? Does the problem occur whether or not the head unit is on? Does the problem occur when playing any source?

 

^^^^ Is on the right track.

Take your old chewed on RCAs and make a set of muting plugs for your amp. If the noise is still present, then you know the problem is at the amps or downstream.

Assuming the noise IS still present with the muting plugs...

To rule out speaker connections/wiring issues attach a test speaker to the amp. Is the whine still present? If so... the problem lies with the amp. If not... Your speaker wire/connections are the issue.

If there is NO noise with the muting plugs, the problem is upstream from the amp.

 

How to make a muting plug:

1. Hack of the ends of your RCA interconnect. Leave a couple inches of cable.
2. Strip the cable.
3. Short the + and - leads together using a crimp cap, solder... whatever.

Repeat for the other interconnect.

 

Would a ground loop blocker help or is that strictly for humming?
