Re: How about window roll-up via OEM remote ?

Wow, Kevin, spectacular! I gotta say I'm interested, primarily for the auto locking feature, window up being a bonus. I'm VERY interested when you get all the details and beta hammered out.

VDC memory and passenger mirror down are very interesting as well. I'd much rather prefer the passenger mirror down because it'd be used much more than a VDC memory in my case. My only concern would be that the mirror returns to its previous position reliably.

Keep up the great work!

Re: How about window roll-up via OEM remote ?

Thanks for your interest....

The passenger side mirror project is going to take some time, and a lot of thinking. There is no way to record the position of the mirror, but, the mirror does use a reverse polarity motor setup to move the mirror up and down. That means, that its the same motor, just the positive and negative are switched depending on which direction you are going. Therefore, if you go down for 3 seconds, and then back up for 3 seconds you should end up in the exact same position. The only way I can think to do it is have an adjustment on it so each person can adjust how far it goes down (thus how far it goes back up too). Just my thoughts so far, anyone have any other ideas?

Unless....the motor stalls at the end of its travel in less than 3 seconds. In which case, it will return to a position higher than it was originally.

But I think your options here are limited, and you're probably describing the only way to do it. A little experimentation will give you a good sense for the timing required, whether it's 3 seconds, or 2.45 seconds. You may have to compromise at some timing that will work for 90% of us, but not the remaining 10%. I doubt you want to get into customized, or multiple selectable timings!

Hi,
Why not have the doors lock when the gear selector moves from park to reverse?

Yes, I agree that an adjustment feature would have to be built in. That way each car could tweak the feature.

That would work great on the 5ats, but not too well on the 6mts. A speed controlled module would work best on both models, it will just take some time to develop.

Re: How about window roll-up via OEM remote ?

Drum roll please...

Here is the first production version of the window up mod. It isn't completely complete yet, still waiting on the wire to be delivered, and the microcontroller isn't in the socket yet. But, this is basically what it will look like. The board is about 1.5" by 1.5". Anyone know where to get nice, cheap project boxes?

Once you actually make them and ship them out are you going to include instructions? What is the level to install, I mean is it hard? Simple?

Droooool. Can't wait. I'm stoked about the side mirrors if you can get that working.

BTW: Your obviously an engineer, is building circuits someone you do as an occupation or is this just a hobby. Can you build a digital descrambler? JK =)

Re: How about window roll-up via OEM remote ?

Hmm.... How it all started....

My current job has nothing to do with microcontroller programming, circuit construction, PCB layout, manufacturing, marketing, or sales. I work in the oil industry doing electronic/electrical stuff with a bit of PLC programming. Our electronic stuff is all at a board level (basically if something breaks we replace the board rather then fix the bad board). When I was in college (I graduated in May of 2002) I took a class on microcontrollers and have been looking for good projects to apply my knowledge. Since I work in the oil industry I travel to where the work is (all over the eastern US) so I spend lots of time in hotel rooms. This, mixed with my love for my G has given me the opportunity to dedicate a lot of time to these projects. Thats a little about me

Re: How about window roll-up via OEM remote ?

I have an instruction manual already written for the coupe. It includes step by step instructions and how to test each wire. If you can take the door panel off and use a DMM then you should be able to do it yourself. There are 5 wires to hook up. If you can't take the door panel off or don't know what a DMM is then take it to your local car stereo shop and they'll do it for around $40 - $50 bucks I would estimate.

I can take the door panel off but I have no idea what a DMM is. :P But I will take it to my buddy at the dealer he'll hook me up.

Re: How about window roll-up via OEM remote ?

Digital Multi-Meter.

KPierson, what about an easy mod to turn on the fog-lights separately form the main(low)-beams?

This would make them much more useful in driving in actual heavy fog as the HIDs cause a lot of bounce-back and glare. I think several ppl would be interested in being able to turn the fogs on independently. Maybe include a circuit for we Canadians to turn off the DRLs when the fogs go on as well.
